Install failure - 0x800B010B - Generic trust failure RRS feed

  • Question

  • I have Windows Server 2003 with SP2 with no internet connection. When I try to install dotNetFx40_Client_x86.exe but it fails right of way. I check the checkbox accepting the agreement and then hit next and it comes up saying that it failed due to generic trust failure. Here are the log files. If anyone has any tips that would be great. Thanks

I do not know how to upload the log file so I will paste the last part of the log file. The next two are from the event viewer in admin.

  • Hi,

I will need to take a look at the complete install logs to narrow down the issue.  Could you collect your .Netfx4 setup logs following the instructions at http://blogs.msdn.com/heaths/pages/collect.aspx and post them somewhere we can access? (you can use skydrive.live.com to post the logs).  I'd be happy to take a look to see what has happened.

    Thanks,
    ~Merrie

  • I have the logs but my network will not let me access any storage websites and I cannot email the file or use jump drives but I do have the file and once I get home I will put it up for you to access. Also the OS is using the Airforce Standard Desktop Configuration and is installed on a machine that has no internet connection. Here is some info about the SDC. I think that the SDC is probably what is causing me problems.

  • Looking at the certificates for the installer there is one that says the path is bad. Does the installer try to connect to the internet to get the certificate?

  • Ok, I finally got the file on skydrive.

  • I've had the same issues regarding the installation of .NET Framework 4.0 Beta 2.

After some searching I found out that it had to do with the Group Policy Object of our domain. So a security policy verifies the certificate for some reason. I still don't know which policy it is. I am even Administrator on my machine.

I tried to install it with a local account with Administrator rights and I can install .NET Framework 4.0 Beta 2.

    Watch for GPO's.

  • Hi BillyJack,

It does seem like your security settings are causing the signature verification failure.  To determine where in the process the failure is occuring could you please try installing this tool: Troubleshooting PKI Problems on Windows Vista.  If you can provide us with the CAPI2 Log created by the tool we can diagnose the problem further.

    Thanks,
    ~Merrie (MSFT)

  • Thanks for your help devdre and Merrie. I have not checked out the GPO's yet but I will not need any more help at the moment. We are now using Windows Server 2008 and did not have any problems. What should I mark as the answer or is there a way to close this thread?

I shall try to identify it with PKI problem util, but it is Win 7 I used for it.

  • The tool mentioned above should work on Win7 as well as Vista.
