Move Domain to another azure subscription RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hello,

I have a .com Domain in one Azure Subscription. Now I would like to transfer this Domain to another Azure Subscription I am also owning.

The Domain has been bought via Azure.

When I go to the Azure Domain Manager, select the Domain an click on "Transfer to another Azure Subscription", I get the following error messages:

    ACTION NEEDED

You selected 1 domain(s) that are not eligible to be transferred.

^ Details: Transfer not allowed for API.

You selected  domain(s) with privacy attached. Those domains can't retain the existing contact information. The new owner will need to provide new contact information.

Unfortunately I have no idea what are the next steps I should do to solve the issues.

  • Sign in to the Azure services portal as an administrator of the billing account that has the subscription that you want to transfer. To find out if you're an administrator, see Frequently asked questions.

Search on Cost Management + Billing.

Screenshot that shows Azure portal search

Select Subscriptions from the left-hand pane. Depending on your access, you may need to select a billing scope and then select Subscriptions or Azure subscriptions.

Select Transfer billing ownership for the subscription that you want to transfer.

    Select subscription to transfer

Enter the email address of a user who's a billing administrator of the account that will be the new owner for the subscription.

If you're transferring your subscription to an account in another Azure AD tenant, select if you want to move the subscription to the new account's tenant. For more information, see Transferring subscription to an account in another Azure AD tenant

     Important

If you choose to move the subscription to the new account's Azure AD tenant, all role-based access control (RBAC) assignments to manage resources in the subscription are permanently removed. Only the user in the new account who accepts your transfer request will have access to manage resources in the subscription. For more information, see Transferring subscription to a user in another Azure AD tenant. Alternatively, you can uncheck the box for Subscription Azure AD tenant to transfer billing ownership without moving the subscription to the new account's tenant. If you do so, existing RBAC permissions to manage Azure resources will be maintained.

    Send transfer page

    Select Send transfer request.

The user gets an email with instructions to review your transfer request.

Subscription transfer email sent to the recipient

To approve the transfer request, the user selects the link in the email and follows the instructions. The user then selects a payment method that will be used to pay for the subscription. If the user doesn't have an Azure account, they have to sign up for a new account.

Success! The subscription is now transferred.

  • Hello,

thank you for this detailed instructions. I have the feeling that it's not what I want to do. I don't want to transfer the billing ownership. Only the domain from one subscription to another. Both subscriptions are separated and have diferent billing owners

Could you please give me the link to the article you copy and pasted? So I can see the screenshots and reproduce the instructions.

    Thank you!

  • @aspendos85, When you say you want to move the domain, is it an App Service domain or Azure AD domain ?

    Regards,

  • @Msrini

    It's an "App Service Domain".

It's only about an internet Domain name (mywebsite.com) and the DNS records.
