Azure Data Explorer Cost Estimate Sheet Question RRS feed

  • Question

  • I wanted to know if the 'Estimated Data Compression' field on the workbook at https://dataexplorer.azure.com/AzureDataExplorerCostEstimator.html indicates data compression after ingestion (meaning you can estimate storage cost based on how efficiently your data can be compressed within ADX) or before ingestion (meaning there will be less ingestion throughput if the data is compressed beforehand)

  • Hi mzrt_,

This is data compression after ingestion. After you load the data and run the `.show tables details` command you will be able to summarize the information after dividing the total size by total extent size for each table and then averaging this across all tables:

Please let us know if you have any additional questions.
