OpenFoam on Slurm on Azure batch? RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hi,

I'm working with a customer with the above requirement.

Any suggestions on the best way to architect?

If I go for an Infiniband VM type (H series) will MPI work on Centos?

Suggestions on the best way to deploy/manage e.g. shipyard or CycleCloud?

Best way to illustrate pricing based on preemptable VM's.

    Many Thanks!

  • Can you provide me with some documentation you are looking at for OpenFoam and Slurm? That way I make sure I am looking into the right products and can suggest further.

  • Sure - openfoam Computational Fluid Dynamics

Slurm - HPC Cluster scheduler slurm

Sorry, I'm not allowed to post links

I see cyclecloud can launch a SLURM cluster and the customer is just asking for a VM but I want to propose Azure Batch and LowPri VM's. Ideally with H Series for infiniband but I'm not sure if MPI will work on Centos.

  • Thanks for that.

As per MPI, we do have a doc for running MPI applications on Batch

    https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/azure/batch/batch-mpi

So I don't see any issues there.

I also found a template for deploying SLURM on Azure

    https://github.com/Azure/azure-quickstart-templates/tree/master/slurm

However it seems the above template is just setting up individual VMs for you so it is not running in Batch. Batch does allow you to use your own custom images so there is nothing stopping you from utilizing batch. But I am also not finding any good examples that allow you to easily get it setup and running.
