How can I manually uninstall .NET Framework Beta 2? RRS feed

• Question

• Uninstalled VS2010 Beta 2.
Uninstalled .NET Framework 4 Extended Beta 2.

On attempting to uninstall .NET Framework 4 Client Profile Beta 2. I get

Blocking Issues:

You must uninstall the .NET Framework 4 Extended Beta 2 before you uninstall the .NET Framework 4 Client Profile Beta 2. For more information, see the Readme file.

On attempting to reinstall Framework 4 Beta 2 I get:

Details

Same or higher version of .NET Framework 4 Beta 2 has already been installed on this computer.

Please help!

Can I simply remove registry entries and the C:\WINDOWS\Microsoft.NET\Framework\v4.0.21006 directory?

UPDATE:

By removing the

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\NET Framework Setup\NDP\v4

registry key I got the Framework 4 Beta 2 to reinstall. But when I try to (re-) uninstall I get the following:

Blocking Issues:

You must install the .NET Framework 4 Client Profile Beta 2 before installing the .NET Framework 4 Extended Beta 2. For more information, see the Readme file. The minor release number of the .NET Framework 4 Client Profile Beta 2 should be greater than or equal to the minor release number of the .NET Framework 4 Extended Beta 2. You have an earlier release of the .NET Framework 4 Client Profile Beta 2 installed. For more information, see the Readme file.

• Hi,

I'm sorry that you are having troubles upgrading from Beta2 to RC. Have you already removed the "Extended" portion of the .NET Framework? I would recommend making sure all regkeys are present. In normal installations, it is not required to remove Beta 2 before installing RC. You can give that a shot. You may also want to consider repairing your current installation before attempting the upgrade to RC.

If that doesn't work for you, I will need to take a look at the complete install logs to narrow down the issue. Could you collect your .Netfx4 setup logs following the instructions at http://blogs.msdn.com/heaths/pages/collect.aspx and post them somewhere we can access? (you can use skydrive.live.com to post the logs). I'd be happy to take a look to see what has happened.

Thanks,

• Hi,
Have you tried what Merrie has suggested? if yes, did it solve the issue? if not, can you please answer these questions:

• How did you uninstall .NET Framework Extended Beta 2 first time? Through Add Remove Programs applet? or by running the setup redist? (I suspect that the first time uninstall of extended wasn't successful)
• Did you remove the "WINDOWS\Microsoft.NET\Framework\v4.0.21006" folder as well? in addition to the registry keys...?

Please provide the answers to these questions along with log files as suggested by Merrie McGaw so that we can have a better understanding of the current system state. Moreover, kindly note that removing setup registry keys and files manually is not a good idea and may corrupt your system and leave it in unrecoverable state.
