How to upload videos bigger than 200MB from local into Media Services upload tool? RRS feed

  • Question

  • If Media services upload file tool doesn't allow files/videos bigger than 200MB how do I upload larger file videos? It has to be via the Storage acct only right? If so how?

I am a CEO not a coder so I would kindly ask for a  step by step to see if I can copy and paste things around.

My site was created in Joomla by Azure. Therefore my database settings (MySQL, host name, etc) were auto created in Joomla too by Azure as well as WebMatrix. So I should be following these links under to upload files to my storage right? But even if i could follow all this under ...Is there a video explaining all this too?

I have 50+ files on my local containing many videos each, so Isn't there an easier way like using FTP to transfer to Azure instead of one video at a time from local upload toll or via the PHP codes under?

    http://azure.microsoft.com/en-us/documentation/articles/storage-php-how-to-use-blobs/

    https://github.com/Azure/azure-sdk-for-php-samples/blob/master/storage/PageBlobExample.php

All I want is to store and stream MP4 videos from Azure and play them in my Joomla site. Plus are the videos going to play with the players that Joomla allows like http://www.joomlaworks.net/support/docs/allvideos

I put this url (generated using the local file upload tool) format under inside the video player that I mentioned above but I'm getting an error that they can't read the file. Shouldn't we give http urls and not https as it is in the containers list? Is the Media Services linked to MYSQL? since  the only info Joomla has about Azure is my database settings ( database type, name, username, database prefix). Meaning is this the right type of url I should copy found in Azure/database/containers to use and should Media Services also be connected to talk to Joomla?

  • hi sir,

    Thanks for your posting!

    >>If Media services upload file tool doesn't allow files/videos bigger than 200MB how do I upload larger file videos? It has to be via the Storage acct only right? If so how?

Base on my experience, you could use Azure storage explore to upload your video. It doesn't limit the file size. Please download the software or code resource form this page:

https://azurestorageexplorer.codeplex.com/ The tutorials is in this page also.

Also, you could see other tools form this page:http://blogs.msdn.com/b/windowsazurestorage/archive/2014/03/11/windows-azure-storage-explorers-2014.aspx

Another way, you could use powershell to upload file:

It seems that you use the Azure website service. If you want to deploy your website, I think you could follow this page:

    http://azure.microsoft.com/en-us/documentation/articles/web-sites-php-mysql-use-webmatrix/

    video tutorials:https://channel9.msdn.com/posts/php-azure

But for the some videos, I suggest you could upload to Azure blob and using the blob URL into your project. You can upload them using some tool or using code . >>https://mymediacctname.blob.core.windows.net/asset-3b809267-2ad2-45e9-9d28-0a920d5bbac7/The_One_That_I_Want_BTS_film_H264_4500kbps_AAC_und_ch2_128kbps.mp4

The blob and container has the access permission. I am not sure how to set the permission on your side. If you set the container permission as public, you could access this blob. Or you need add the authorization information into your code.

    Please see this link:

I'm not certain why you stated you are the CEO and not a coder. If this is an issue with your company then perhaps you should hire an employee that understands what to do or how to correct the issue. Otherwise you've decided to take on a new task and apparently don't want to involve yourself to the level necessary to perform the task without having somebody else provide step by step instructions of some style for the task at hand.

It can only be a guess as to what level of training would be required to be provided to you for you to get up to speed.

You seem to have numerous questions about different things which Joomla isn't relevant to this forum.

  • Hi Monkeyboy,

Yes I am not a coder.... therefore I was looking for help as Will Shao above was so helpful and solved the problem unlike you. I had mentioned Joomla because it is PHP, therefore  I needed an insight from someone that knows about Azure solutions in PHP.

If you have no suggestions please do not write your personal rude comments because my questions are really "relevant to this forum".
