Copy protection - how do I get the hard disk info RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hi there everybody

IS there some way to get hold of the hard disk info inside a vb.net piece of software?

My idea is to get the hard disk info, then the software then creates a 16 digit software code.

The user pays paypal which sends him to a webpage on my asp.net site

they enter their code and it gives them an unlock key

When they run the software the software recognizes as the right code and unlocks certain features of itself...

    I'm using vb.net 2008 express...

I've been using a similar this called AxActivelock which does a similiar thing - but I have to generate the code by hand - and I know I could make mre sales if it was faster...

Has anybody here got any gody copy protection ideas?

  • This is my method

On first run: Program generates GUID

user information (name, Address, phone, email, etc..) into application

user selects license period and edition (demo, standard, full)

    application sends packet to server

key is encoded with a hash, TDES, XOR.

server responds with a 40 byte key(assuming funds have cleared)

once key is decoded by application, certain portions must match GUID, and some aspects of the user provided info

GUID is linked directly to ONE registered copy

Key will only work with one GUID which must also match user info

  • Many HDD Vendors donot return value so many times you will get null value in case you use HDD Info. Better Way you use network settings and Processor Info which is unique always.
