Workflow Manager Backend service fails to start - FatalException

    Question

  • Hi,

I installed Workflow Manager 1.0 (with default recommended configuration) and the Cummulative Update 1 and activated the feature on SharePoint 2013. I restarted my server.

The Workflow Manager Backend service cannot start. An attempt is done every 30" but it's always fails. The errors I see in the event viewer (every 30") are the following:

    Error 1

  • Hi,

I also got this issue happening repeatedly in my server. I am installing the workflow manager under Windows Server 2012 R2. Perhaps the problem appeared after I got install this first CU http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2799754/en-us

Hopefully I was able to fix this issue by installing this CU 2 : http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2902007/en-us

    Hope this helps..

  • Hi,

I am not sure if you have solved this but it seems that the WF 1.1 Update requires some more updates in one of the tables in the configuration database for the Workflow installation. Checkout the database [WFResourceManagementDB] and the table [WorkflowServiceConfig]. You need the flowing entries and values:

    WorkflowServiceScopeSnapshotProcessBatchSize

    20

    WorkflowServiceScopeSnapshotProcessLoopInterval

    00:05:00

    WorkflowServiceSuspendedInstanceRetentionDuration

    30.00:00:00

    WorkflowServiceMaxInstanceCompressedSizeKB

    5120

  • I really don't understand how they release such things. Don't they test before releasing?

  • Little late I am and sure that you alrady resolved this. For me, I had two updates of workflow manager. To check...open control panel...add or remove programs...uninstall updates ...remove update of workflow manager if there is any duplicate.
