Benefits of Azure Migrate versus Azure Site Recovery for migrations? RRS feed

  • Question

  • Is there a reason to switch from ASR to Azure Migrate during a migration project? What are the benefits of Azure Migrate to what we currently are using to do migrations?

    Thanks,

  • Hi,

Azure Migrate provides a centralized hub to start, execute and track discovery, assessment, and migration of machines and workloads to Azure. Azure Site Recovery is a disaster recovery solution and can be used for migration. Azure Migrate Server Migration leverages Azure Site Recovery in the backend to enable migration scenarios for lift-and-shift migration of on-premises machines.

So with Azure migrate it will give you the assessment report which include Monthly cost estimate (Compute, storage), and Azure VM readiness (Machines not ready for Azure, machines ready with conditions and machines ready)
