keep promtping for username and password RRS feed

  • Question

  • I have SQL 2017 installed on server 2019 OS, the SSRS role is setup and using the default settings in the RSReportServer.config file.

On the server that SSRS is installed I can access the webpage without a issue, on a remote server I am getting prompted for username/ password. when I place my account information in the prompt it gives me a access denied.

I placed the server url in intranet settings but it is not passing through my credentials. The security log on the server that has SSRS installed records event ID 4625 with the following:

    Failure Information:

Failure Reason: Unknown user name or bad password.

    Status: 0xC000006E

    Sub Status: 0xC000006E

    Detailed Authentication Information:
     Logon Process:  NtLmSsp
     Authentication Package: NTLM

Security options for the server are set in the following: Network security: LAN Manager authentication level-> Send NTLMv2 response only\refuse LM & NTLM

I am a admin on the server and on the database, the GMSA account and the execution account specified in the SSRS console can access the webpage without issue from remote servers.

I have compared the web page security settings with a SSRS page that is working and everything matches.

When I use the service account listed in the execution account field at the IE credential prompt it lets me through with the following:

    Detailed Authentication Information:
     Logon Process:  NtLmSsp
     Authentication Package: NTLM
     Transited Services: -
Package Name (NTLM only): NTLM V2
     Key Length:0

How can I be allowed to login to the webpage and have my credentials pass through?

  • Hi Jedi_Administrator,

    >>when I place my account information in the prompt it gives me access denied.

Have you grant the user account to report server in SSRS web portal?

Please refer to Grant user access to a report server and Grant permissions on a native mode report server which might help.

    >>unknown user name or bad password.

Could you please try to uncheck "Specify an execution account" in Report Server Configuration Manager?

Please refer to this similar thread.

    Best Regards,

  • The SSRS is to support SCOM reporting, the person who did the install listed below has no issues seeing the reports with his account, from a security group membership aspect and SQL database rights aspect everyone on the team has the same rights as him yet his account (minus the GMSA and the execution account) can access the report server reports from a network location... still have not found the fix to allow others to see/ read/ create reports from a network location.

Install SCOM Reporting Role on the SSRS SQL server:

•Locate the SCOM media. Run Setup.exe. Click Install.

    •Select Reporting Server

•Accept or change the default install path and click Next.

•Resolve any issues with prerequisites, and click Next.

•Accept the license and click Next.

•Type in the name of a management server, and click Next.

•Choose the correct local SQL reporting instance and click Next.

•Enter in the DOMAIN\OMREAD account when prompted.  You MUST input the same account here that you used for the OM Reader account when you installed the first management server.  Click Next.

•On the Diagnostic Data screen – click Next.

•Turn Microsoft Updates on or off for SCOM, Next.

    •Click Install.

    •Close when complete.

  • This was not the fix action, I will mark this as the answer though because in any other instance this would fix the issue being described
