VS 2008 and VS 2010 Both in one machine RRS feed

  • Question

  • Can some one tell me if VS 2008 and VS 2010 (beta) live happily together in one box....I am using VS 2008 and wish to install VS 2010 on the same machine...what is the analysis...Should I take this risk...

    Thanks

  • I have done this too. One issue to be aware of is that if you have the TFS client (Team Explorer) installed on both, you will encounter problems if you try connecting to the same TFS server with both VS 2010 and VS 2008 open. I think Team Explorer uses a mutex and only one VS instance gets the lock at one time.

    Thanks,

  • I just installed VS2010 not a few days ago. So far, I have not run into any issues running it with VS2008 either.

  • I'm also curious about this. I'm planning on downloading  the VS 2010 beta on a computer that already has VS 2008 Pro.

Has anyone heard of or experienced any issues of running VS 2010 and VS 2008 side-by-side?

  • For me, Beta 2 was fine, RC killed my 2008 - attempting to repair 2008 now, but now the vs2008 Setup is failing. The Property Grid component is gone according to VS2008. So I'm a bit miffed.

  • Hi all!, now I'm working with vs 2008 and vs 2010 10.0.30128.1 RC1 without problems. You can install the two products.
