Windows Live Messenger eating up between 20 to 60% of my CPU usage. RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hello, when I boot up my computer or reinstall Windows Live Messenger, it'll be stable with the CPU for a while. Then it'll start to lag. I look under processes and msnmsgr.exe is indeed using up a lot of my CPU.

Why could this be? I've uninstalled it with ZapMessenger, and still didn't fix my issue.

    Thanks to any suggestions.

    -- EDIT

When I sign into WLM, the contacts list will pop up - I had disabled this so it doesn't popup automatically. It works fine, no hogging of the CPU. When I have a conversation, it uses around 4% of the CPU. Then when I open up the contacts list, BAM. It all hits. If I closed the contacts list, the problem is still there.

  • Got it ! It's the damn Harry Potter advert! I switched to full view, and it replaced it with the Lynx Dry advert ... (I mean really, yes Lucy is fit, but... do they really need to use her to get people to buy their products). When I switch back to compact view, it doesn't get rid of the harry potter advert. I'll have to stay like this for now.

  • You'll need to patch the WLM:  http://apatch.org/downloads/
