  • Hi we have a software developed for showrooms with the Microsoft Surface SDK 2, but starting as today without any intervention on the software, it sometime stop receiving touch events!!the thing that is really strange if we use the mouse the software is responsive, and without closing the application i switch to the desktop, touch is working on windows, but not on the software, it was working fine yesterday. i also tried to update with the last surface runtime 2 with the new fixes but the problem persist.

We are using Displax touch frames

    Any suggestion?

  • @Orangebit,

I think you posted the comment at http://blogs.msdn.com/b/surface/archive/2012/02/05/microsoft-surface-2-sdk-and-runtime-update.aspx

    2 questions for you:

    1. Are you using the updated SDK or the SDK we release a few months ago?
    2. What hardware are you using?

    Thanks!

    Hi Luis,

Yes he was me :), sorry i was quite in rush, the problem was really making my customer mad.

Yes i also tried to use the updated bits, but the problem persist, i found out that the problem is some small power surge that cause the Touch Overlay made by Dysplax, to disconnect for a second , you can reproduce the same effect by opening your app with the touch screen connected and after the app is opened disconect the usb for a  second or even more time, then plug it again the application will no more work with touch input but it will work with mouse input (touch on windows start to work again without any problem, i Solved my problem by simply replace SurfaceWindow with wpf standard Window.

    So answering you questions

    1) We were initially using old sdk and runtimes we upgraded and the issue was still there

    2) the pc is a Dell Vostro 260ST, Touch Frame Overlays from Displax 40"

If you need more infos let me know.

    Thanks

  • We have found what is happening, the problem is sometime on these device, seem that the touchscreen is something like is going to disconnect for a second, and the Surface libraries canno't detect when the touch screen is plugged in again, everyone can simulate this by keeping the app opened and unplug the usb cable, after reconnecting it, surface libraries can't see it anymore until you close and reopen the app?

There is any way to forse surface libraries to look again for devices?

  • Solved by my self!!!!!

I had to change SurfaceWindow to Window, it seem like if using SurfaceWindow it cannot detect that the device was unplugged and plugged again.

with WPF standard Window it work perfectly!!

  • Env: Windows 7 (WES), .NET Framework 4.5.1, WPF

I am facing similar touch issue too. (1 time per 2 weeks, during working my application)

The system only show ripple effect when I touch buttons (simple button) on my application.

JUST not work with TOUCH. (This is random issue. I cannot reproduce this issue.)

At that time, the touch worked just fine in Explorer app and On-Screen Keyboard.

Additionally, my application works when I use mouse.

If I restart PC, the touch function on my application works fine.

Anyone know this issue? How to fix this issue?

  • I have same issue with Windows 10 IoT Enterprise LTSB 1507 and .NET framework 4.6.1. The issue is very difficult to reproduce but it happens randomly. We have more than 100 clients quite frustrated with this. For the moment using a USB mouse it works. Did you manage to find any solution or ways to reliably reproduce the issue?
