Netmon for Windows Phone RRS feed

  • Question

  • I want to develop an application for Windows Phone which can be used to capture network traffic. Does Microsoft provide any SDK/library/API which can be used to capture network traffic on Windows phone? Can Microsoft Network Monitor be used for capturing data on Windows Phone?

  • Thanks Paul.

By "client machine", do you mean a PC which is connected to Windows phone?

What about Windows Phone 8? Does Microsoft Network Monitor provide any SDK/library/API which can be used to capture network traffic on Windows phone 8?

  • Hi ModeLearner,

Yes, he means the machine with the windows phone connected.  I'm not sure what it's default behavior is, but it can grab the connection from your PC to get to the internet, so you can capture all the data going through your machine from the phone with Network Monitor.

We don't have any specifics on what Windows Phone 8 will allow you to capture from the device; it's probably best to ask that sort of question in the WP8 forum to see if it'll work any differently than WP7.

    Thanks,

  • We don't have any API that supports capture on Windows Phone.  You can capture data from a dev unlocked phone by running netmon on the client machine.

    Thanks,
