delete catalogs

4 กันยายน 2553 1:58How do you delete a catalog? I've looked and looked, and there is no information as to how to do that. Further, how do you delete files or folders from a catalog without deleting them from their original location? I'm frustrated with this. I've spent a lot of time looking. What's more, I posted a question well over a week ago and there was no response. Does this process work? How long do I have to wait for a response? My question seems to be a logical one. When I type the question into online help, the response I get is not helpful at all. The response to my particular question is not available. That is so often the case with online help. Someone respond in a timely manner, please.

Firstly, if you read the sticky at the top of this forum, you will see that Microsoft have sold EM to Phase One, and ceased support for it on 25th August. As far as I can tell, there doesn't yet seem to be any similar forum available from Phase One.
Now to your questions - you don't say if you're using Windows or a Mac, but assuming Windows (I can't personally say anything about deleting catalogs on a mac) open up Windows Explorer, navigate to the folder where your catalog resides, and delete it from there. Alternatively, if you want to do it from within EM, select File, Open, navigate to the folder holding the catalog to be deleted, right-click the catalog and select Delete.
A catalog holds information about the items you 'store' in it. It's only the information it stores, not the item itself. So if you delete something from within the catalog, you only delete the information stored in the catalog. You don't delete the item itself. You have to go into the file system (Windows Explorer) to do that.

4 กันยายน 2553 20:27Thanks. I do have a Mac, and I deleted them from the files in "Finder." They were moved to the trash, but they still show in the program when I click it. Issue still stands.

Phase One's Expression Media forum has been up and running (and very active) since May 25. You'll have to create an account with Phase One to use their forums or submit support questions through their official support page. Links to both pages were included in the acquisition announcement at the top of this forum.
Here's the direct link to the EM forum:

Seems the Mac works different from Windows. Just tried it and the catalog I deleted no longer shows in the Recent Catalogs list.

Hello,I have a mac. Just move the catalog into the trash AND empty the trash. This should do it. I have just tried it with a test-catalog and that works.
