Evolution of SSDS features

16 июня 2008 г. 21:291. Do you think the 2 GB container limit will go away as the SSDS evolves? With the relatively large DB we have, it would need to be spread over several containers.
2. How about the 2 MB entity limit? How can we store large amounts of data, especially text, in such an entity?
3. How about the SQL TOP query?
4. When will Text, BLOB, money and other types be supported?

Hey Nicholas,
Some great questions...Here are some answers / comments
1. Do I think the 2 GB container limit will go away? I can't really go into details on that, but I will say to keep in mind that each container is scoped to a node in the cluster of machines. So depending on your data model, you could see some great performance gains by spreading your data across a larger number of containers. I gave a Best Practices talk at TechEd and one of the things I talked about is partitioning your data. I am going to start a blog series on SSDS Best Practices and will put up the partitioning best practice first. You can hit my blog at http://blogs.msdn.com/drobinson
2. That is a valid point, but 2 MB of text is a lot of text. What is your scenario? Access patterns? Use cases? Feel free to ping me offline if this is not something you want to discuss on a public forum
3. We have gotten this request numerous times and its on our list. Can't comment on a timeframe though
4. Can't comment on specific timeframes, sorry. But trust me, not letting the cat out of the bag on some of these feature is torturing the team :)
