When I try to do an SEO report I get the error message "Microsoft EW4 has encountered a problem" and the program shuts down.  How can that be fixed?

    Thanks, Al

That's not exactly the solution I had in mind.  There must be a way to do it.  I have used "Tidy" as a validator but since I am a self taught expert (which must tell you something) I wasn't able to figure out how to solve the errors that it showed.  I was hoping that the EW4 function would explain how to correct the html error.

Since SEO reports run without error for me, I am unable to suggest anything that would fix a problem I don't have.  :)

I mention this to point out that this isn't MS technical support.  You could try asking Microsoft - instructions are in the "Form FAQ Start Here" post.

Otherwise, you could search the forum or wait and see if anyone has had the identical problem and found a solution for it.

Wait, you were hoping that EW's SEO Report function would explain how to correct an HTML error reported by HTML Tidy, because you don't know enough about HTML to correct the errors yourself? Or are you saying something else?

Umm... tell you what. Why not tell us exactly what you are trying to accomplish here, from the git-go. At this point, I'm not sure whether you are trying to resolve HTML errors or optimize your site, or other...?

    cheers,

    Hey Scott,

Thanks for your reply.  I probably used the wrong terminology (html) but what Tidy is coming up with are things like these:

    Warning: <td> proprietary attribute "bordercolor"

    Warning: <span> proprietary attribute "displaytext"

Warning: <img> escaping malformed URI reference

I thought if I can use the EW4 report it might come up with something that I understand I can fix it.  THE REAL PROBLEM so far is that when I try to go to the Report on SEO I get the error message that "Microsoft has encountered a problem" and the program promply shuts down.  Whether or not the SEO report gives me the method to correct some of the "bordercolor" or Displaytext" problems or not I would like to know how to use the SEO report without getting an error message.  Actually my site,  www.oldeworldelace.com, comes up on the first page of Google for almost every keyword (Lace Curtains etc.) I use but I just want to make it as perfect as I can.

Thanks for taking the time to read this.

SEO reports won't help at all with those errors. What you want to do is go to Tools>Page Editor Options>General and check the boxes to highlight invalid and incompatible HTML. Then, edit your pages in split view, and when you see the highlighted errors in your code hover over them to see a tooltip explanation of the problem.

As for the crashing SEO report, run the report from Site View. If I have focus on an open page, it will crash every time. If I have any number of pages open, but switch to Site View before running the report, it works every time.
