Sharepoint Workflow Fails to Start
-
Wednesday, October 22, 2008 6:53 PMI designed a simple workflow to fire when a survery got responded to. The workfow gives the error message "Failed to start (retrying)". I checked the 12 hive logs and there is nothing there. Also there's nothing in the Event Viewer.
Can you help?

Someone else answered this for me. It's a Sharepoing Bug to have a workflow associated with a survey and therefore it doesn't work.

Hi Dave,
could you please give us some more info about how you created this WF.
SharePoint Designer or Visual Studio?
Do you have full logging to "Hive12"?
Cheers,

this kind of error alert is very ambiguous, just like error msg in SharePoint. I deal it almost everyday. you can't get much helpful from event viewer or log or ...
Just some of my experiences:
1. make sure your assembly codes are right, sometime even you passed the compilation but still some bugs there. not syntax problem but functioning one.
2. if you deal with InfoPath form then be sure you published them in a right order and to a right place.
3. for form communication pay attention to ItemMedatada.xml, is it right set or did you set form with 2nd data connection? etc.
4. every time, when you got new assembly did you reinstall the feature and reactivate it? don't forget to restart the iis.
maybe more .... and hope this helps.

Thursday, October 23, 2008 2:06 PMMike - I clicked the survey in Sharepoint, then clicked Setttings then Survey Settings then Workflow Settings then Add a Workflow. I did not use Visual Studio or Sharepoint Designer.
I created it there.
I'm not sure what you mean to have full logging to Hive 12. I know that I've never seen much there. Maybe things are not getting logged there?????????????
