Such thing happens when the default application assigned for .xml files is replaced with another. This patch will restore default values in your registry. Enjoy!

    Brilliant, thanks KA-50Hokum.

I can only assume that Dreamweaver did this, but your solution worked on my OEM Vista Ultimate.

    Perfect - thanks!

It works fine now on  OEM Vista HomePremium!

I also have dreamweaver, and had the same problem - and have been franticly trying to find a solution, with most answers being to re-install, which i didnt really want to do!

    Thanks again KA-50Hokum!

Works a treat with Vista Business. I guess it must be Dreamweaver. C'mon Adobe, get it together. Dreamweaver is a nightmare on Vista!

I read your thread and noticed your using Dreamweaver too. Are your usernames and passwords disapearing even when "save" is checked off? Makes working very difficult, not to mention the storing of all those passwords.

Yeah, that's a common problem with 8.0.2. All we can do is to wait for Adobe patch. It really doesn't save FTP parameters under Vista-s.

    solved!!!!!!

ADOBE has a DW8 patch 8.02 which fixes several issues. Even installs if you skipped the 8.01 patch.

    Fixed the login issue immediately.

Now my only issue is the fingerprint reader in Vista on my D820. Cant install Embassy Trusted suite. Seems blocked. or prohibited by some other installation?

I have 8.0.2 installed, but the password problem remains. May be that's because I have Russian version of Vista...

Can only say thank you as well, and well done KA-50Hokum.

Unbelievable that a 3rd part program such as Dreamweaver could produce such an effect and then not be a glitch explained on Microsoft's or Adobe's websites. 2 days of researching finally brought me to this forum and the problem was instantly solved.  Although your text file was unintelligible to me as a English speaking person.

Sorry for that. The instructions are simple - add info to register by clicking on file, and if UAC is on say YES to him.

Dreamweaver has to be the common thread here.

I see that everyone that had this problem also has Dreamweaver. Myself included.

This patch works Great though used it on Vista Ultimate. Fixed the help system perfectly.

I have enabled cookies and evrything else I could think of but it still displayes the same message. Am I suppose to go to another lik of some sort. Thanks for your help. Many thanks!!!!!!

    Fixed the problem.

Guess it is Dreamweaver.  However, I would have been prepared to go without "Help and Support" rather than Dreamweaver..

I am not a very nice person, I clicked on the link with ..
    Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 6.0; en-US; rv:1.9a3) Gecko/20070322 GranParadiso/3.0a3
and it asked if I wanted to open it (with WinRAR) or save it ti disk.  Also Vista will not handle .rar (zip) files, so have you something to open the file?

Give me a break!!!  When I click on 'open in new tab' in Vista IE7 it usually opens a new instance of the application.  Pisses me off.

    What I am getting is:

"Microsoft Visual C++ Detected help and Support - Runtime Error! Program C:\Windows\Helppane.exe - This Application has requested the Runtime to terminate it in an unsual way. pls contact the application's support team."

I have to try yet to see if this gets fixed.

    Hi

I see that this the solution but I do not know what to do with it. I would be grateful if you could tell or direct me to where I can get this info.

I also noticed That Dreamweaver is the cause. I will stop shout at MS.

    Thanks

    Hi

Does anyone have the file that was once accessible from http://www.thevista.ru/datas/users/50764-help.rar ?

For some unknown reason it isn't any longer accessible and it seems to be the only sure fix for the error, "Internet Explorer cannot download / from help" and there aren't any other posts that I have found that even address the problem.

It figures that the one resolution has been pulled and there aren't any other recommendations for this. If someone has the file and wouldn't mind e-mailing it to me plz let me know.

    Thx

For the error with help and support not working with the error that Internet Explorer cannot download form the file / Help all you have to do is to re register the msxml3.dll file to do this open command prompt as an administator and type in regsvr32 msxml3.dll

Well, this patch doesn't work for me. I still get the same error, and I have never had Dreamweaver on this machine.
    Any other ideas?
