    Hi Mike,

This is the way to install Telnet

    Go to Control Panel->Programs.

Depending on your VISTA, you will find there option called "Windows features" or "Advanced ...."

Go inside these and look carefully you will find option to install telnet or switch it on.

If you cant find it let me know and I will tell you exect steps. Rightnow I am not connected to my VISTA machine and I am too lazy to go there to lookup the options.

You are better off using PuTTY.

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/PuTTY

    (link on the bottom)

You get ssh support, logging, and the ability to maximize the window out-of-the-box; along with backwards support for unencrypted/vanilla telnet.  The new releases of Redhat don't even enable telnet by default; so having the -ssh command line option is often useful.

Telnet is still a great and quick way to check if your services are listening.  I agree that putty is awesome for ssh.

its a shame putty's exe isnt ssh.exe instead.  Then we would all be so much more cross platform.

    putty -ssh linux.microsoft.com -u root

    ssh -l root linux.microsoft.com

You could write a wrapper script to mimic the SSH command.

PuTTY is also a nice replacement for HyperTerminal as it now supports serial interfaces :-)

Another great replacement for telnet is AbsoluteTelnet from Celestial Software.

It supports telnet, ssh, serial, dialup, etc...

We use Accuterm from www.asent.com .  It's full-featured, supports telnet and ssh and has a free download.  Thousands of users connect to our servers with it.  I prefer the command line telnet because it is so much faster.

I tried to solve the problem with this solution but when I go to the "turn windows programs on or off" there isn't anything in the window.  It is completely empty.  Is there any other way to fix this?

Im stressed cause this laptop doesn't have "Programs and Features, Windows Features, Or Advanced" when I open the Control Panel. What might it be under if I can't find any of that in my Control Panel? If it will help I could give you a list of what I have in my control Panel.

    Hello,
I'm new to TELNET.  I'm trying to make a URL call from my machine.  Can someone let me know if TELNET is the best tool for this?  If so, what are my steps to make this call through TELNET?

    Your help is much appreciated!
