regarding installation

hai

    when i tried to install winfx runtime 3.0 (january CTP), i couldn't install i got some errors... before i tried to install winfx runtime i unistalled all the previous versions of frame work and SDK. Then i installed the same in the following order

1. Visual Studio 2005 (RTM)
2. windows SDK (january CTP)

   After this tried installing winfx runtime 3.0(january CTP) but couldn't continue that....i just want to know wheather the order of installations i followed is corect....I also want to know the proper order for installing Windows Presentation Foundation,Windows Communication Foundation and Windows Workflow foundation...need some guidance regarding this

Hi Ashok,

There should not be any order installation dependancies between VS and the SDK.  We've built and tested it that way, although generally speaking the best order to install is the order we list them on http://msdn.microsoft.com/windowsvista/getthebeta/  The only order dependancy that is there is the "VS Extensions for WinFX" and "VS Extensions for Workflow".  Those should be installed after VS and the Windows SDK.

Can you push us your errors list?  We can help you triage it and get to the root cause.

This looks like a runtime issue independant of the SDK.  I am going to bring in some folk from that team.  Stay tuned.

In the %temp% location: 1) all the dd_* log files; 2) uxevenlog*; 3) w*.tmp

Hi Ashok,

I also faced a lot of problems with the installation of the January CTP on a existing parition where the  old versions of Win FX existed.

Then i wentfor a clean installation of the entire kit including Orcas and Expression in Virtual PC.

Now everything works fine and i am ableto create Avalon apps. Seems that it is a complex issue to clean the computer completely before going for the January CTP installation.

Yes, thats very good adivce. 

In addition check out the WinFX runtime uninstaller utility to see if that helps... http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyID=aae7fc63-d405-4e13-909f-e85aa9e66146&DisplayLang=en

For info, there is no dependancy of VS2005, WinFX Runtime, or SDK on each other in terms of installation order.  We've gone to great lengths to make that the case, but there could still be bugs in that assertion.  The VS "add-ons" that make VS work well with the SDK are required to be installed last.

Try M. Rajesh's advice and the advice above and let us know how that works.

I've got essentially the same error using the May 23 build (Beta2/RC0)

I'm on XP and I have run both CleanupSharedWinFXFiles.exe and vs_uninst_winfx.exe are there other things I can look for in the registry or filesystem?

I don't really understand the grammar of the messages: did it fail to install WCF because nothing tried to install the WinFx coponents first? Given that this was procuced by winfxsetup.exe, I sort of doubt it.

.. And I got the very same problem as Andrew with may 23 build.

But in my case, I'm trying to setup winfxrc.exe (x86) on a clean Windows Vista 5342 (this is the only vista available I got rite now, I'm trying to put it on Vista 5381.1 also following days)

I got the same error messages on log files as Andrew and waiting for a solution.
