"The owner SID on a per-user subscription doesn't exist"
- I'm trying to convert this one AVI (XVID) to DVD using Windows DVD Maker. Every single time (tried it 4 times), I get this error at 99.0%:
The owner SID on a per-user subscription doesn't exist
What is this error? I tried with multiple DVD, and still get this.
I'm using an NEC DVD-/+R burner (don't know the exact model).

I am having the exact same problem. The conversion process gets to 99% and i get the message:
"The owner SID on a per-user subscription doesn't exist".
I have looked for help on google, but nothing else seems to apply to our situation.

- not that this helps, but I get the same problem. But only on certain avi's. It is annoying because it takes like 2 hours to make the dvd then you get the error. The only file it has happened to me was a 2 hr 20 min movie, I don't know if the length is an issue or not.
- I get this too, regardless of what I'm trying to burn. I've ruined 6 DVD disks trying different things.
Can we get an answer to this please? - bump... man NOONE knows?
Hi all...
I might be jumping the gun here, but i am rather excited... I recently updated my Graphic Card Drivers to the Vista drivers from the ATI site (I have a ATI Radeon 9600). Don't think that i have changed anything else...
Last night i tried to copy a different DVD and it worked. So today i am trying the one that did not work in the past and i will let you know tomorrow.
Holding thumbs...

- I have the same problem with WMV files. I don't know which file it is since I'm adding 21 small files. Guess I will have to do this the old way if I can't get Windows DVD maker work.
**edit**
I used the same files, set the data back to Sept 1st and it worked. No Joy.....
The old AVI still does not work, so it seems to be movie specific.
HSChronic, set his "date" back, that sounds interesting.

Hi all...
Seems that no-one else is going to help us here.
I have in the meantime formatted and re-installed vista. I loaded the K-Lite Codec pack and now all of the movies that did not burn in the past are finishing successfuly.
So best of luck to all of you...
Werner
Actually, this is very odd. But I think I have an idea of what is causing the problem. What I believe, it is the resolution of the DVD or some type of video you are installing. I do not think it is yet designed for normal DVDs. It's very time-consuming to explain.

I'm having the same problem. Is there not a solution? I am trying to burn MPEG-2 files to DVD using Windows DVD Maker.
Please help!Bump!
I am also having this problem. Tried making a 2 minute long DVD. The original source was a .AVI container using a xvid video stream.
What gives?
- I just used a different DVD and it worked this second time (DVD-r) - the one that didn't work was a DVD+r - but I'm not sure if this was the cause.
Hello, I've got the same problem. My error message is in Finnish thought, but still it is the same.
I just a few days back recorded multiple files as chapters (.wmv) from my DV camera film to my vista computer (home premium). I thought the feature to record you movies was nice, too bad you can't make a use of the with windows dvd Maker, because of this error.
- I have the same problem in case anyone at MS is keeping score.
Has anyone been able to solve this issue?
My specs:
p4 3.2 Ghrz,
2 gb ram,
Ati Radeon x800 pro,
LG dvd drive.Mine was the second post on this thread, and i have decided that Vista is not supported enough. I have gone back to XP and will wait until the first service pack is out.
I also had loads of problems with drivers (e.g. bluetooth, W-LAN) and applications (e.g. antivirus, graphics).
Pitty though, i realy liked VISTA.
Werner
I'm also experiencing this problem. I don't want to stop using Vista, but damn it's annoying me

If anyone can explain what is causing this and how to fix it, it would be very much appreciated!
Same problem as you all, I have Windows Vista premium and I tried to burn with Windows DVD maker. On the Internet I found something interesting for this problem.
1.This is not a Windows Vista only problem. I found the same problem on Windows XP.
2.This problem is not specific to Windows DVD maker. I found the same problem on other burner software
3.This is a very old problem. I found a forum post in 2003 with the same problem.
My father and me have exactly the same computer. We experience the same problem. But my father found that when he burn a windows movie maker project instead of the movie, he can successfully burn the DVD with Windows DVD maker. So anyone can try to put your video in windows movie maker, save as a project and burn the project with windows DVD maker.
I also found that some burner software that got the same problem post a patch that fix it so I think Microsoft will do the same.
Finally, I can succesfully burn with another burner software. I create a menu with DVDstyler and burn the ISO with imgburn and everything is fine. So the problem is not related to the computer, just a specific situation.
Here is the answer:
The problem is linked to filter and codec you have installed on your computer. For anyone that have windows vista premium and use windows DVD maker to burn DVD. This is the exact solution to resolve the problem:
The filter and codec I installed on my computer was vista codec pack. Maybe some of you installed the same one. The problem comes from this codec pack. You need to remove that pack in the unistall program section. After this, you install this codec pack that works for me and my father and did not cause the SID problem. Install the K-lite mega codec pack (compatible with vista) that you can found here:
http://codecguide.com/download_mega.htm
For anyone that have the same problem on other burner software and on windows xp, try to install an another codec but you can choose the same one because this codec is windows xp compatible.
Hope you will resolve the problem...

- You are absolutely correct. I uninstalled vista codec pack and installed K-lite's codec pack and it started working. Thanks a lot. Now I can finally use dvd maker correctly.
- same with me... thank you so much for letting us know of your find!

Sadly, I'm getting this error too, and I don't have Vista Codec Pack installed, but I have the latest FFDSHOW. Anyone else know how I can fix this?
I think you should unistall FFDSHOW and install K-lite codec pack. It is possible that filter or codec that cause the problem was the same in FFDSHOW than with Vista codec pack. At least try it.
Are you using Windows Vista with Windows DVD maker?

hi there-
thaks for posting a solution... however- I could not find the vista codec pack on my system and I am still rcving this error. I downloaded the K-lite anyway and tried to install and when I did this- DVD maker would not work anymore at all. So i reverted back to a system point previous to the install. DVD maker is working again, but I am still getting the error. i looked for codec packs and don't seem to recognize anything I should uninstall. did I not install k-lite correctly? as it walks me through setup process i just used the defaults- should i have been checking off all the boxes before i installed? Initially when i used the dvd maker i never had this problem. all i recently installed that I can think of that would have had an effect was a plug-in for microsoft front page? please help- i guess i need dummy instructions on how to install the k-lite step by step and which options i should install. or did i do something else wrong. please help- i appreciate your help- Kerry
- ok so that is the problem with my computer but how do I fix it? where do I find this codec? how do I unstill it?
- I'm using DirectShow to read in some audio files and when I have pointed my codec to a file that has a sample rate of 22.050 Hz and the codec expects (hard-coded) 44.100 Hz, I get this message. After using a audio file that has the expected sample rate, the message doesn't appear.
This means that the codec retrieves other data than it expects. Either the codec is wrong, or the content is not entirely correct. I'm not sure how to proceed further in your cases, but either install a correct codec (as suggested) or validate your content. Hi, sorry I did not see your post...
Vista codec is not a codec pack include by Microsoft in Windows Vista. IT's a codec pack downloaded from the web and manually installed. Vista did not include a lot of codec pack so you need to install one to see .avi video (as an exemple). It seems that some people did not installed the Vista codec pack and still getting this error. Probably because they installed an another codec pack that is not fully compatible with Vista. The things that you need to do is to go to your control panel and on ''program managing'' (I don't know the exact term because I have a french version of Vista). It's the place where you can unistall a program. There you will probably found the codecs that you have installed. If you not found a codec pack installed then you need one. Follow the link for the K-lite codec pack. Just use the default setting and install it. You really need to unistall older codec pack before install K-lite.
You need also to try an another burning software just to see if you get the same error. In my case, I did not get this error, just with Windows DVD maker.
Finaly, it is possible that an audio setting on the video cause this problem. In that case try an another burning software. Try different file to burn (big file 2 Go or smaller like 100 Mo). and see if there is a problem with some file type. I don't really know how to correct that problem unfortunatly, maybe you may change audio settings.
The problem is with your codecs....i figured out that if you have your ac3 filter or whatever filter your using set above the source material you will get this error. I am not really a computer tech...but i had the same problem and i put the ac3 filter to default settings 2ch or as is and 16bit...can't use 24bit with vista dvd maker. As far as i am concerned there are really only 2 codecs that you need on vista...Ac3 filter and Divx...you can play pretty much anything with those too...maybe quicktime if your feeling silly. Hope this helps....it did for me. If you have the vista codec package i would remove it. I'm telling you, all you need is those 2 codecs. If you have the vista codec package then don't change the settings on it and it should work fine...no more errors of the SID subscription variety.
I´m using the CCCP codec pack with AC3 filtering.
I turn the AC3 off and mark by my surprise, it seems to be working!!
It started burning and it´s att 9% right now...
So turn of your AC3 and i should work...
EDIT:
And it didn´t

Are you using Windows DVD Maker to burn this DVD? If so you need to use Windows Movie Maker to burn a dvd and let Movie Maker start DVD Maker on its own.
I am having the exact same problem. The conversion proces actually only gets to about 72-73% approx the message comes up and then it reads 99%. I have even gone to the extream of installing windows 7 and still get the same message. Can you all tell me weather or not you had to install windows your self or did it come alteady set up oin the cumputer. all othere web sites appear to go on about internet settings but what thats got to do with dvd maker i diont know. im guessing now thats its something to do with BIOS/CMOS settings or its because we installed windows our self. silly idea i know but computers are not always logical in that way.
- I to have been able to do a completed burn the same way but when i checked it there was a fat green line over the bottim half of the screen and the image was compressed to the top half. also the dvd would not player on my dvd player that will normally play everything have you had the same problems.
- tried all the other stuff like the different codec packs and waisted lots of time doing this. low and behold the problem was with my AC3 codec uninstalled it and bang, it worked first time just hope i dont need that codec to burn any film in the future as the only reason i have it is because a film i was trying to watch required it.
- Try nero 7. It burns everything ..avi's,mp4 etc. I tried all the codecs with Windows DVD Maker and just gave up
