Expression Web SP2 - Undo Problems

I still continue to have issues with the undo bug in Expression Web SP2.
It's still random when it occurs, however I once it starts happening I can replicate the issue. Very frustrating.
For example: I just spent a good 30 min making changes.
I added a new column to a table and tried to undo the new change. EW undid the last 20 or so changes I made.Anybody else experiencing this?

Very, very few people come here with EW2 questions any more, so it's unlikely that we've seen an undo question in a year or two.
Use the forum search box to see what you can find. That will be better than relying on peoples' memories.

Hmm... it's unclear what he's actually talking about—"Expression Web SP2" could refer to either EW3 or EW4, both of which had service packs, but (AFAIK), neither of which suffers from the "undo bug," or, inadvertently, to EW2, which had no service packs, but which did suffer from the undo bug. At least, among those who experienced it.
In either event, Bill's right. If the OP's talking about an earlier version, we don't get much traffic around here about those anymore, and even when the version, and bug, were current, it was not universally experienced. Oh, and not to beat an expired equine, but this forum is not the place to report or resolve bugs. Just sayin'... ;-)

Are you using the keyboard shortcut for undo?
Keep in mind that it will keep undoing as long as the keys are pressed.
Does it do the same if you use the mouse on the menu drop down.Expression Web MVP

Sunday, July 15, 2012 3:48 AMI'm using Expression Web 4 SP2 and am experiencing the exact same problem. Makes no difference whether I hit Ctrl+Z or use the menu, I never know what Expression Web will do! Most of the time, it will undo tons of modifications rather than just the last modification. I am forced to do a Ctrl+Y and try to figure out how to manually fix it. Very frustrating indeed and such a waste of time. It's easy to find others with a simple Google search having the same problem. I've been experiencing this for well over a year. This is the last sort of bug web developers should be worrying about.

Someone has suggested turning off Check Spelling as You Type in the Options, saying that it messes up the Undo buffer when they tested it. I have always had it turned off and never had an Undo problem. On the other hand the Undo problem is very rare, given the number of copies of EW that have been sold, so I may just be one of the majority who wouldn't have this problem. Worth a shot.
At any rate, this isn't MS tech support, and we have no resources that you don't have, so this is probably the end of the line as far as I can go.

For the record...
I've also been caught out a few times using the Expression Web (v4 sp2a) undo feature. A quick look at Google's suggested searches shows lots of others have been as well!
Just try typing expression web undo into Google to see the 'suggestions' that have been generated as well as the many results/posts.
Back in EWeb3 it was also an issue that MS acknowledged:
Issues that are resolved in this service pack
- Fixes a problem in which multiple tasks are undone when you use the Undo feature.
It hasn't been possible for me to recreate this on-demand as when the problem has struck for me I'm not able to re-do the changes so just have to try to piece things together again.

Perhaps some of the 'regulars' here haven't heard of this problem being very frequently reported as they often seem to discourage any discussion that they think is outside of the remit of this forum. People should be allowed to talk about all things 'Expression Web', good and bad in this forum - it is after all linked to directly from the EW4 Help pages and from many other MS sources. So it's not just here for when things can be answered. If something is posted that can't be 'fixed' by the regulars then I would prefer them to leave the thread unanswered rather than paste the same old text! Then others searching for possible answers may be able to add their experience and solutions and at least the issue is being recorded in an official location.

I have the same problem. As a safety I always have the webpage I'm working on opened and updated in "preview in Browser". When the undo takes me back too many steps, I'll simply save the "preview in Browser" webpage as an HTML webpage, which a then reload in EW. In this way I'll never loose any changes made.

Good idea Suriman.
I have had the Undo problem in MS EW 4 SP2 also. I haven't been able to find any common trigger. I do have spell-checking while typing turned on.

I can see where this would be incredibly frustrating. Here's another possible workaround for you. The Common and Standard toolbars both have the undo and redo arrows, and each has a small drop-down arrow next to it. If you click on the drop-down, it shows a list of the most recent actions. You should be able to select just one action to undo. Of course, the bug might hit that too, but it just might avoid it. I know it isn't quite as convenient as just hitting the undo arrow, but if it saves a bunch of work it is a small price to pay until MS solves the problem. And, if you have already tried this, feel free to ignore me.
