Unanswered Unlinked reports

I have been going over other forum posts for the unlinked reports in EW4 and if I understand it I guess I don't understand it. lol  When I look at the "to" and "from" columns I may see 6 links in and say 10 links out.  If I have incoming and outgoing links to a page how can these be unlinked files?   I would totally understand if I saw 0 and 0 but in all I checked the files listed are live files.  I am using relative linking and the "links" (that can be reach from the home page is actually pretty close.  All the files I am looking at are internal to the site.  I have also checked with the link verification and have no broken links plus I have scanned the site with Microsoft SEO toolkit which also says no broken links.  What the heck am I missing?  BTW I did do a site clean and recalculate, no change. Thanks

The Unlinked files report refers to files that have no DIRECT link path from the site's home page - a file with pages that link to it may not be on a direct path from the home page, and thus gets
    reported as "unlinked".

If you use server side includes for navigation, then almost every page in your site may be on the unlinked files report - server-side includes do not provide that required direct path. This would
also occur if you used scripting for navigation.

    might help.

Thanks for the response, I guess my menu must be busted in some way or I just don't understand, lol.  one www.stokesabode.com I am using a list formatted by css and many pages are in fact accessed directly from the home page, there is a second menu for the motor oil pages and it has a link back to the home page but you do get to it through the menu on the home page.

When I look at the report I see every page is reported as unlinked  in the unlinked report yet the linked part of the report shows 175 pages that can be reached from the home page.  175 is actually the total pages. I as just confused how one part of the report shows the correct number the other is totally wrong.  I am sure I must have done something stupid.

If it helps, The Reports->Site Summary shows figures for:

    Total Files
    Unlinked Files
    Linked Files

The Linked + Unlinked should equal the Total Files - (the figures are for all files, not just pages).

You can update the reports by running Tools->Recalculate Hyperlinks

    Ron,

The first post said he already tried recalculate.

    nstokes,

What version of EW are you using?  I'm just wondering if any of the earlier versions were confused by links in design-side includes, such as your menus.  (EW4 has no trouble with them.)

I am using EW4 with the service pack, I have done a recalc, uused the EW cleaner, ran the recalc again, pressed F5.  I am totally baffled.  I guess I could take some screen shots and post if that would help understand what is going on?

    Screen shots don't help.

Regardless: why spend any more time on this?  If the links are there and you can reach those pages in your site - and you know they are - ignore the report.

LOL I agree, I actually have around 25 I think that may be not right and figured I would use the report to find them but that's a bust.  guess I will have to do it file by file.  Are we having fun yet? :)  So weird the reports say 175 linked, yet I see all of them in the unlinked, if I run any sitemap generation tool I get 150.  I need more brain cells....
