I am using Expression 3, Windows 7 and IE 9. I have been doing changes on this web site for three yrs with no problems. I made updates/changes to the website on Expression and previewed them on Expression- everything looks great. Then i publish the folders/files and when I open the website in IE it is still the old unchanged one. I cleared the IE cache. Could this be a code problem? Where can I start to find out why I can't publish it??

It is quite possible that your hosting company caches web pages.

Open your site or an updated page in your browser and then press
CTRL+F5 to do a forced refresh and see what happens.

A second thread, and yet, still no link to a sample page with a description of exactly what you see and what you think you should see.

We can't help you with no information!

Sorry Kathy, I'm new to this and didn't know what was required. My website is www.dosxxcattle.com when I open it it is still the old verison no new changes that I have done on Expression. On the "sires" page it should be a large pic of a bull at the top and it is still two smaller pics. And all pages have been changed on Expression but not published on the web.

    I hope this helps.

Thanks, Steve   I tried this but it didn't work.  It seems to me that even though Expression says that the publish was successful it does not publish any of the changes, so it must not be going to the right website ???

      Has Code

On the sires page there is only one large picture at the top, http://www.dosxxcattle.com/images/100_0772.jpg

You also have coding errors, where the page is still calling for two images that are not where the page is looking for them. (strech09.jpg and stoutwin.jpg).

    <td valign="top" height="297" width="416"> <img border="0" src="stoutwin.jpg" width="406" height="294">

    </td>

    and

    <p align="center" class="style4"><font face="Tangiers">Dos XX's
    Chief's Mr. Stretch 916/7 <br>
    <img border="0" src="strech09.jpg" width="515" height="377"></font></p>

Look in your Code View.  If you see these, fix them.  If you don't see them, republish the corrected page.

(On another topic, you should not be using folder or file names for websites that have spaces in them.  It can sometimes cause problems.  Your sires page is http://www.dosxxcattle.com/herd%20sires.htm  The "%20" means there was a space in the name.)

I changed the files names so that the %20 won't be there - I took out the space in the file name.

On the sires page - I know it is not correct there are missing pics - I deleted them. That's why I updated it on expression. The site has lots of wrong details in it. I made all the updates in Expression and when I try to publish it - it still comes up on IE as the old one. I can't get the new updated one to publish. Expression says "publish successful" . It's like it's not going to the right place ???

Well, if EW says it published sucessfully, then EW put the files right where you told it to. But you may have told it to put them in the wrong place.

If the page calls for bullinachinashop.jpg in the Images folder and you told EW to put it in the Data folder, you'll need to fix that. Only you can log in to your server and see where the misplaced pictures and pages are. Once there, you can either move them using the file management program or (better) delete them and set EW to publish to the proper directory on the server (your hosting company has that information).

It's not the heat, it's the stupidity.

How are you publishing?  What commands are you using?  If you select files in the publishing window and click the right-pointing arrow, they will be published where they belong, in the correct folder corresponding to where EW knows they are in the local copy.  If you are dragging files over, they will be put where you drag them - even if that's the wrong place.

And, of course, this assumes that you've got the correct FTP publishing information, so that you are logging into your proper root folder on the host, and that you are opening the corresponding local folder (inside of which are all your site pages and files) when you open the site in EW.

I go to "site" tab and click on Publishing. Then I click on the folders/files in the left side, highlight it then I click on the little blue arrow. It then says that it was published successfully.  I checked anf I do have the correct FTP root address for Blue Host -- public_html/dosxxcattle

    The correct folder is public_html

If you go to http://www.dosxxcattle.com/dosxxcattle/herdsires.htm yo will see the updated page - note the extra dosxxcattle folder.

If this is your primary domain with Bluehost, then Ron is correct and the folder you should be publishing too is public_html.

Not to complicate matters BUT if you want to use another folder to hold the main domain, you need to make changes in your .htaccess file which is not for someone who is new to web publishing. The path you are using would be correct if this is an addin domain hosted on the same account.

If this is your primary domain, then change the remote folder location to public_html and you should be good to go.

Which of these is supposed to be your site?

    http://www.dosxxcattle.com/dosxxcattle/

    or

    http://www.dosxxcattle.com/

Right now it appears you have two of the same identical site, one done correctly and one that shows mistakes. Especially the page for Herd Sires. Is this your primary domain for your Bluehost account? If so, and you have not specified within the .htaccess file that it should point to a subdirectory, then you should have published all of your pages to the public_html directory.

Since BH allows you to host multiple domains on one account, any other domains call addon domains should be published to a subdirectory and set up so the domain points to that subdirectory.

The way you have it right now, Google will see two separate duplicate sites and anyone going to the main domain will see pages that are not correct.

Pat, the OP was publishing to the wrong directory.  Simple as that. There was not supposed to be two sites.

Pat, the OP simply hasn't removed the pages from the wrong place.  No, there is not supposed to be a site at

    http://www.dosxxcattle.com/dosxxcattle/herdsires.htm
