Discussion Expression Web 2 Update

I was working tonight... hmm, well, truth be told, I was just kind of futzing around, but anyway, up pops an "Updates are ready for your computer." So, I clicked it to see what was up and there were twenty(!) "important" updates, plus the ten optional that I've been ignoring for the last two months. The interesting thing was another eight "recommended" updates, one of which was an update for Expression Web 2. The remaining seven were updates of the Help for every app in Office and a few more.

I gladly clicked the checkboxes for the extra eight and told it to have at it. It took almost an hour, IIRC, to download them, and it's been another hour and the installations are 74% complete. Lotsa stuff.

Anyway, the point of this post is to give you a heads up. Without thinking, I OKed the updates without clicking the EW2 update to get more information about what's in it. So, I don't know if it had anything to address any of the numerous minor gripes we've all complained about. So, when you get the notice, would one of you kind folks click the EW2 update to find out what it fixes? Thanks.

    cheers,
    scott

Maybe it fixes the $150.00 overpayment less the "guinea pig response" testers paid time?

After all, I paid $200 - it's currently on at $50 and I spent a little time in the 'rant and rave ' forum!!!

What a joke and, the illusion is crumbling... That would be the illusion that MS makes any better or worse software  applications than anyone else!

What a great O/S Windows is.  What awful awful foresight and understanding on the part of MS for their Office apps dev..

    Yeah.

    What could possibly go wrong?

Thank you for the thoughtful and on-topic response.

Anybody else? Maybe someone who has actually downloaded the update and can answer the question?

    cheers,

Hmm.  I can't find an update for EW2.

Just did an update check - nothing at all waiting for me as of now.

The latest EW update I got was back on Dec 31, and it was to fix a problem with Macros on Vista.

    Nothing since that...

Hmm, I'm not sure why all of a sudden I got all of these updates. I was wondering at the time if MS was beginning a "patch Friday."

Anyway, I retired last night before the updates finished installing. Today I was able to go into my update history and find out just what was installed. Here's the list:

As you can see, it all appears to be Office-related, save the one EW2 update. However, now having access to the KB number for the EW2 update, I can see that it appears to be the exact same update I already installed Dec. 10, having to do with the macro issue on Vista. Bummer. I don't know why WU felt it necessary to reinstall that update (I've been successfully using EW Extras Toolbar since the first update), but it appears that this update didn't address any of the still-outstanding issues with EW2.

    Oh, well... :-(

The EW update is to fix macro issues according to the knowledgebase item http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx/kb/957827 I'm surprised it took this long for it to appear as it was put out a month ago.

Right. As I mentioned above, I installed that update as soon as I read about it, back on Dec. 10th, since I had been unable to use the Expression Web Extras Toolbar (macro-based) since I moved to this Vista machine. As soon as I installed it and rebooted, I installed the EWET and tested it and it works fine, no crashing. So, that update has been in place for a month and a half now, yet WU seemed to feel that I should install it again. Go figure... ;-)

    Yeah, I'm hip.  ;-)

Still doesn't explain why Windows Update was unable to discern that I had already installed that particular update (KB957827). And I'm still more than a little curious as to why I suddenly needed 28(!) updates to Office, since I have regularly installed Office updates since I got this machine in December, when notified that they were available (I have WU set to notify but not download or install automatically), especially since nobody else here seems to have received the same notification. Kinda makes me wonder if many or all of those 28 (besides the EW2 update) might have been repeats also, and if so, why? I haven't done a System Restore or anything that should have brought it on.

Oh, well, the mysteries of Microsoft...

At least my testing so far seems to indicate that no harm was done. I've been working in VS 2008 and EW2, Photoshop, Illustrator, and InDesign, Word 2007, and a few other major apps, and everything at least appears to be copacetic at this point. We'll see what the future holds... ;-)

    cheers,

    Scott,

I just checked MS Update and aside from a few optional uddates, I am not showing any of those in your list.

Perhaps the Update server is attracted to your computer, and wants to meet at Starbucks for coffee. ;-)

No update waiting for me, there was one a couple months or so back that did fix the EW Macro issue on Vista (a problem that didn't hit everyone but hit most) and that's the only one I saw.

No, technically Expression Web is not part of Office but it does borrow quite a few tools such as spellchecker and of course there are the bit there for backwards compatibility with FP creaed websites but unlike FrontPage Expression Web is definitely not part of Office. The fact that we are on Expression Web v2 while Office is still 2007 should tel you that much.
