AnswerSuite Integration Toolkit Executable has stopped working (on Vista during VS2008 Install)

    Product: Visual Studio 2008

    OS: Windows Vista Ultimate SP1

    Hardware: P4-3.4GHz (HT), 2GB RAM

Problem: When I run the setup.exe, the "Visual Studio 2008 Setup" window opens with the three options. I choose the first one (Install Visual Studio 2008), which is the only one enabled. As soon as I do, a small window pops up saying:

    Error 1
Suite Integration Toolkit Executable has stopped working
A problem caused the program to stop working correctly. Windows will close the program and notify you if a solution is available.

The bottom half of the window displays a progress bar and a cancel button, which turns into a "Debug" and a "Close program" button. If I click the "Close program" button, it closes the "Suite Integration..." window and then in a few seconds the "Visual Studio 2008 Setup" closes as well.

If I click the "Debug" button, a "Visual Studio Just-In-Time Debugger" window appears and says:

    Error 2
An unhandled win32 exception occurred in setup.exe [6440]. Just-In-Time debugging this exception failed with the following error: No installed debugger has Just-In-Time debugging enabled. In Visual Studio, Just-In-Time debugging can be enabled from Tools/Options/Debugging/Just-In-Time. Check the documentation index for 'Just-in-time debugging, errors' for more information"

Note: This system did have the express editions of Visual Web Developer, Visual Basic and Visual C#. I uninstalled them in order to install the full Visual Studio 2008.

Thank you very much, but that did not solve my problem. However, I had forgotten about Norton Antivirus, so I disabled that and it allowed me to run the installation. I love NAV because it protects my machine well, but some times too well. I've been trying to get this machine up and running as my new development machine and NAV has caused me more heartache and lost time!!!! I'll try to install something and after beating my head against a wall for an hour finally realize that I need to turn off NAV, then presto, it works!

It's possible this might have something to do with Vista UAC (security).  Try running the Visual Studio 2008 setup.exe as an Administrator by right-clicking the file and selecting "Run as administrator" and see if that doesn't clear up the problem.

That's a good point. AV progs are notorious for wreaking havoc on installs.  Glad you got it going!
