The VS2008 download is driving me nuts!

Last attempt got to 97% then it dies with a "fatal error", and provides no opportunity to restart! I thought this akamai downloader was supposed to handle connection losses ?

Fourth attempt here we go ...

I had the same problem, both with the ActiveX downloader with IE and the Java downloader in Firefox.

I'm going to try using FDM to fetch the file.

There's nothing more frustrating than getting to 97% complete of a 3.3GB file download then the downloader losing the connection and instead of resuming, deletes the file (even if you choose the option to keep the file).

Free Download Manager support resuming the download, I tested it. I am happy the microsoft did not disbale the resume function for downloads on serverside, yes that would not be very wise but the happened already in past.

Same here - about 75% of my downloads using it fails, both using Firefox and IE.

I am having exactly the same problem. I have tried using Vista and XP and I always get an network error between 80-97%.

Same here, tried multiple times on Vista and Win23k fails around 60~70%. Permanent network failure suspected, then when you accept the option to retry you get a file is no longer available error and have no option but to quit. On my third try I tried pausing and restarting just before I expected the problem to occur but with no luck. I upped the temporary internet file space allowance via the registry (as per the trouble shooting notes) but same failure. I contacted the online concierge who has told me that it is a problem that is being looked at within MSDN and that I'll get informed when there is a fix..bit disappointing to say the least

Safari on Windows has downloaded the ISO (VS2008Pro) fine. After 5 failed attempts on two operating systems via IE (and being reminded about using other browsers by the post talking about firefox above) thought there's nothing to lose by giving Safari a try. Maybe I was lucky but it worked 1st time, the install from the iso has just completed fine.
