    When booting up, during the log on screen, I get the following error message;

    svchost.exe- Application Error

X- The instruction at"0x7c918fea" refferenced memory at "0x00000010". The memory could not be "written".

Click on OK to terminate the program.

    Click on cancel to debug.

I try to do both functions but still error every time when booting up.

    Any solutions?

    Dear ,

For the error at the login screen ( SVCHOST.EXE - Application Error the Instruction at 0x7c918fea referenced memory @ 0x00000010. The memery could not be written ) The solution is as follows:

1- Go to Control Panel      2- Administrative Tools              3- Services

4- go to the following Service : ( Windows Driver Foundation - User-mode Driver Framework ) Right Click then choose Properties ----> in the start up type choose Disabled.

    Then reboot the system.

This should do the trick and stop the error from appearing at the login screen. I guess that Windows MediaPlayer 11 is the one responsible for this error.

    Hope this helps you.

    Kindly post your result

hey... i just had a similar problem...

-this can be caused by many things... svchost.exe is a generic process used by MANY different programs on your system...

    - if you have recently loaded a new printer / scanner or other device w/ software... camera... uninstall and see if ok...

    - to narrow it down... get a application called "Absoltue Startup" .. free eval version on inet is fine

-install it... go to Services section... look thru the list... you will see many services that use the svchost.exe to start... you can see this in the description of the service... near the end it will show that it uses srvchost.exe to run

    - if it does... disable it... make not of what you disable... probably 5 -10 services

-restart... if ok... not go and start service back up and see which causes the error

    - another common culprit is Mcaffe... uninstall...

    - basically some software service is using SVCHOST.exe to start... and it is crashing... eliminate by stopping all the auto start stuff from starting up... get it to just the basics ... fix it... than work back

    - also you can try to start in Safe Mode With Networking... press F8 while booting... it will probably now work fine with no

errors... this is because it did NOT try to start the culprit process

hope this helps... feel free to email me if need more help.... vesposit@carpenter.com

    Thanks MAJED
Unless one is in "classic view", to get to the "Administrative Tools", you need to go to Performance & Maintenance in the "Category View" first. Then, the instructions work the same. I have done everything and it seems like it will work. Just have to reboot to be sure. Hopefully, the problem is corrected.

Hi I am getting the following message:

    When System Boots up:

    Svchost.exe – Application Error

The instruction at “0x10002007” referenced memory at “ 0x000c7000”. The memory could not be “read”

Click on OK to terminate the program

Click CANCEL to debug the program

When I click OK or Cancel I get the NT Authority\System message DCOM Server Failure Shutdown in 60 seconds comes up

So I do shutdown –a to stop it.

Also another similar Svchost.exe – Application Error message comes up with different memory reference

    “0X6f6122f” referenced memory at “0x000035d0”.

And I click OK for that and then system is running.

My workgroup is not working at all

    Internet works

I did the last kwon config and that didn’t stop it. I have not installed anything new and I do not have system restore turned on.

Any solution would help as I do not want to reinstall XP. Thanks.

    Majed,

You seem to be the only one who had a clue about this problem.   No one knew anything.   I had it

narrowed down to a service that was set on automatic start-up,  and was associated with svchost.exe.

I  was using the trial & error method & unsucessfuly) stopping random services, when I ran across your

solution and fixed it in 30 seconds,  although I still don't what this service does,

     or what the svchost.exe is.

         thank you,      jimmyt         ( jimmyt@rof.net )

What my problem now is the DLCDtime.exe, constantly causes an error ( usually after I print ).

Windows Defender's "Software Explorer" tool shows the DLCDtime.dill  as a start-up item under

"Microsoft Run a DLL as an App".   File Name:   rundll32.exe      Start-up Value:  rundll32

       C:\windows\systen32\spool\Drivers\W32X86\3\DLCDtime.dll._RunDLL.Entry@16

Nobody has any idea what it is, or what it does, or what to do with it.   I have tried to disable it, and

tried remove it from start-up.  Its a .exe.   It's an .dll.   It's a pain in the butt.   Any ideas ?

    MAJED

Your touted fix didn't work for me. [That's not a complaint, and I'm happy others have found it worked for them!]

I followed your instructions but bumped into the following problem:

    1) Went to the Control Panel

    2) Went to Administrative Tools

    3) Went to Services

    BUT

At Services I was faced with two tabs, labeled respectively Extended or Standard.

I tried each one, and neither one nor the other has a Service titled Windows Driver Foundation, or anything that looked like a variant of that wording.

I tried this with both the Administrative account and again with the Administrative account's automatically created User account.

No luck. Anyone else have this experience? Anyone else solved the deadend?

    Thanks for your feedback.

This is what I've found to work. Log in and turn off automatic updates. Then reboot. Do a manual windows update. Reboot. Then turn back on automatic updates. This has worked every time that I've this error appears.

Has anyone had issues with multiple entries of Svchost.eve causing their machines to slow down.

when I googled this, it said that while svchost.exe are required, that they can also be corupted and introduce worms that can be destructive?

is there a legitimate scan program to check for this.

    HKLM>Software>Microsoft>Windows NT>Current Version>Svchost.

well this error usually crops up due to the windows update service ive noticed it on a few hp laptops running xp sp2 and the only solution that worked was disabling the windows autromatic update feature.....although my research regarding this error pointed me to the fact that this error usually starts cropping up after the failed installation of some microsoft office update...so it is recommended that u goto the windows update page n diable the "microsoft update" options there as well.worked fine for me give it a shot just might work for u.u can always get the precious updates by manually going to the site and d/l them no biggie

    Hi there,

I too had a simuliar occurrence and found that another solution when using Windows XP, is to do a system restore to a previous day restoral point.

My troubles started when a family memeber shutdown the computer (without using the start button) when the automatic updates were attempting to download to my computer.

After my restoral success, these same files were able to download and the svchost.exe error went away.

    Hope this helps out there.

This Solution to the svchost.exe worked for me. I tried almost everything on this forum and others. This was the only solution. Its easy.

    1. Disable "Automatic Updates"....
Go to Start-->Control Panel-->Automatic Updates. Make sure that u have selected to "Turn off automatic updates"

    2. Restart your Computer.
    3.Manual Download Windows Updates.
    Go to Start-->All Programs-->Windows Update
Microsoft will do a validation check and check your system for the latest updates.
My problem was that a Microsoft Office 2003 file update for Project 2003 Service pack was not installed properly. Microsoft corrected that. Just follow microsofts instructions to the manual update and update everything that is available for updating and everything should be ok.

    4. Restart Computer
    5. Turn on "Automatic Updates"

this helped me alot....it was the only solution that worked for me.

hi, i used to have the same problem with windows XP pro SP2. when i boot up the computer, 2 windows pop up. one says svchost.exe error and then some code thing and if i click OK, some programs i run won't have sound. the other one says Win32 blah blah blah. what i found to solve the problem is there was an error during some windows update. all you need to do is turn off the automatic update in the control panel then go on the microsoft website and find the right update. click on this link :http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyId=7A81B0CD-A0B9-497E-8A89-404327772E5A&displaylang=en.  download the update then reboot your computer. after that turn on the automatic update again and reboot again. after that, there shouldnt be a problem.

I followed your instructions and it seems to be working - the error box does not come up autmoatically after a restart. I think you're right about it being an error with the Windows media. The problem now is that I cannot get itunes to play or get sound when I open an online radio. It's awfully quiet in my house now... Anyone have any suggestions about how to fix this? For what it's worth, this problem cropped up for me after I installed WordWeb, but, also, after I had a couple of issues with a new scanner I had installed.  Taking a chance, I uninstalled WordWeb, re-booted (twice), and the problem went away.   It's really too bad because WordWeb is a darn nice (and free) dictionary/thesaurus.   If my system appears to be stable for a week or so, I might try to reinstall it.

I still have the error pop up on my machine.

I have tried all of the different solutions in this thread, but none of them seem to work.

I have done the whole disable automatic updates, disable the Windows User Mode Driver Framework service, downloaded a patch from Microsoft website, the solution from cavin posted before this one, and other solutions from various websites.

Is there anything else I can try?

I am running XP Home, Ver 2002 with SP2 installed.

hey, u seem to know sumthing bout svchost errors.

    my problem's a bit different....

wenever i start my laptop, the cpu usage spikes to 100 percent and stays so for 15-15 minutes. it then drops to normal. During this time no other application wrks. the culprit is svchost.exe which takes up all cpu space

u have any idea wat to do?

what programs have you installed recently? go back to them, uninstall or try the auto update for that appliaction and see what happens. some people use the system restore and take their PC to some date back when they didn't have this problem but this may work only once and i ma sure that you resolve it once this way and you will get it in a month or two. the best way is to find the appliaction that is causing this. I am sure that one of the auto update services is causing this problem.

I don't know if this helps but it worth a try!

    Thx,

    Hi Majed

Thanks for the solution to the problem I had encountered for a past few weeks. I was aware that one of the programs I had upgraded or downloaded was causing the problem.I did uninstalled a couple of them and reinstalled but the problem still remained. I would not have thought to associate it with Windows Media Player 11, which I had upgraded. Google search engine gave me the opening to your letter in MSDN. I hope Microsoft is aware of this problem in Media Player 11. They should take steps to correct this. Thanks once again.

    Regards.

What a week!  I'm so thankful I found your post about this error message!!  We'll see if it works!  McAfee has been helping me all week as well as Comcast.  McAfee scanned my computer for viruses, not only that messed up my Real Time Scan, my On Demand Scan and my Spyware Detector and I can't fix it nor can I run a scan!

I am getting a similar message (but worse, I think):

    When booting up, during the log on screen, I get the following error message;

    svchost.exe- Application Error

The instruction at"0x7752od0e". referenced memory at "0x7752od0e". The required data was not placed into memory because I/O error status of "0xC000009c".

    - I click debug or cancel and my computer starts rebooting again. If I try to boot in safe mode, it gets to a certain point and I get the exact same error screen and cannot go any further. The only thing that I did was put a friend's camera card in my laptop. It wanted to install drivers and then said it needed to reboot...

I was never able to come back after that. I wasn't sure if it was bad memory so took both sticks out and tried them one at a time. Got a slightly different error both times at the same spot in the boot. So I am not sure if that is the problem - or the hard drive. I have not had ANY problems to indicate that HD was going into failure - nothng.

Without being able to boot - I am stuck.

Any help, advice or hard, stiff drinks appreciated Smile

when I log onto my pc under any of the users, the system responds very slowly. Sometimes immediatley, sometimes a few minutes into using. When this happens, I hit ctrl-alt-del to get the task manager and I find the svchost.exe program running my cpu up to 99%. When I end the process everything works fast again except the sound stops working--unless you play something like music or video with sound- then end the process. If I do it this way my sound works. but if I end process while no sound is playing then the sound quits until I restart the unit. This gets quite annoying. How can I fix it???

I am having the same problem as 1fatbastard...

My computer is completely worthless in the state that it is in right now, cannot do anything.  It takes about 10-15 minutes to get into the task manager, if I can even get there!

When I watch the task manager processes, svchost.exe and winlogon.exe take turns running at 98-99%, thus inhibiting anything else from starting.

I've uninstalled McAfee in an attempt to help, but it did not.  I've read other places that SP3 may be the culprit???

    Anyone help us?

I am having that same issue. I have just gotten a new mobo / processor / power supply /memory sticks. So basicly the only thing original in my pc now is my HDD with windows xp and the outter case. In the registry HKLM>Software>Microsoft>Windows NT>Current Version>Svchost , at the end of the Value Data for the Netsvcs key, there was an empty line.

     Hi,
The error I am getting is similar but not the same. it is an iexplore.exe application error instead of svchost.exe and i get the error when working on a particular web base application. Any suggestions?

    Thank you,

I was having this problem.  I know it can be a lot of things.  For me, it was Java.  I uninstalled and reinstalled the latest Java JRE, and that took care of the problem.

    Majed,
I seem to have the shared problem with the preverbial SVCaplication error. Seems to have started after upgrading to WMP11 ( bad mistake ).
I tried your remedy but unfortunately did not work. Any other ideas or remedies.
    Appreciate any help with this.
ps. I'm what you call a super user but still learning IT stuff so some specific go to's would be highly appreciated.
    Thanks

    Majed,
Just wanted to say thanks for helping me out on this one. My laptop is working fine again. I was playing with those services and hence created this error message without knowing how to fix it. Won't be playing with matches anymore :).

It may be two and a half years after your posted solution to the SVCHOST.EXE error.  However, I'm here to tell you your solution worked just fine.  I have RegCure and it did not identify nor correct the error. Local computer fix-em-up shops had no clue on how to fix it.

    Thank you.

I have another variation on this error.  It comes randomly.  It doesn't seem to matter what programs I have running.  I have had an empty desktop with nothing running and I come back to my computer and there is this error message.  Often if it pops up while I am working, I can continue what I am doing.  However I can not shut down or reboot the computer using the start button.  I have to do a hard reboot using the button on the front.

    Yes, I do have McAfee.

    My error is:

    svchost.exe - Application Error

The instruction at "0x00000000" referenced memory at "0x00000000". The memory could not be "written".

Both memory references are complete zeros.

Do I need to uninstall McAfee and will this return if I then reboot and reinstall McAfee?  I use it as a Comcast subscriber.

    Thanks
