AnswerError when installing VS2008 SP1 Beta on Windows 2008

    I got the below error msg from the log

     

    Exe (C:\Users\ADMINI~1\AppData\Local\Temp\Microsoft Visual Studio 2008 SP1 (Beta)\dotnetfx35setup.exe) failed with 0x80070643 - Fatal error during installation. :
    [5/14/2008, 13:32:27] (IronSpigot::ExeInstallerBase:: PerformAction) PerformOperation on exe returned exit code 1603 (translates to HRESULT = 0x80070643)

    [5/14/2008, 13:32:27] Action complete

    [5/14/2008, 13:32:27] (IronSpigot::LogUtils::LogFinalResult) Final Result: Installation failed with error code: (0x80070643), Fatal error during installation.

     

    I am doing this in a VPC environment with the below software installed

     

    Windows Server 2008 Standard RTM

    Visual Studio 2008

    Office 2007 w/SP1

    Windows SharePoint Services w/SP1

    SQL Server 2008 Feb 08 CTP

    the .net 3.5 sp1 bootstrapper fails to download the missing files. When you check the size, it's only 2MB. Try the full installer from here:

    Hi,

    the .net 3.5 Sp1 Beta online installer fails to download some files from the internet and so you're getting this error message. Do you have a internet connection inside the VM?

    Yup... constant fiber connection...

     

    The error msg appear after all required files are reported to be downloaded and the installation process starts

     

    I double check the downloaded files in my AppData folder, they are about 169Mb... is it correct?

    The bootstrapper for .NET 3.5 SP1 that's included with VS 2008 SP1 Beta is indeed 2Mb. As the release notes state, you need to be connected to the network for the entirety of the VS 2008 Sp1 Beta installation, as the .NET 3.5 SP1 bootstrapper goes out onto the network to retrieve the files needed.
