    Hello,

I can't seem to find clear answers to the questions below. I hope someone from MSFT can help me.

What are the process templates (version number!) shipped with TFS 2008?

Are there any issues migrating team projects that use other versions of same templates (e.g. MSF4CMMI 4.0 in TFS2005 and MSF4CMMI 4.1 in TFS2008)?

How to migrate to TFS2008 team projects that use custom process templatesin TFS2005 (I want to keep using my custom template in TFS2008)?

    Hi Clara,

Some of these questions are tough ones but I will take my best shot at answering for you.

We currently do not have a version # associated with process templates. This is a very requested feature and is something we are considering. We did rev the process templates in the 08 release. If you would like to access the shipped templates, you can find these along with a full library of partner and community templates on our website, which is here: http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/teamsystem/aa718795.aspx

In VSTS 08 we support compat; we ensure that projects created with an older template continue to run successfully on the new 08 version. Template migration - taking an existing, customized template from a previous version and migrating it forward to take advantage of features in a new release - would be a new feature and is not available in VSTS 08. I have noted down that you have requested this. It is definitely a good idea and one we suspected customers would want to see from us in upcoming releases.

    Hello Stephanie,

    Thanks for the prompt answer.

There is still something I don't understand. In my TFS2005 I created a team project X with custom template Y. When I migrate to TFS2008 what will happen with the work items, the team portal, etc of this team project X? Will the custom template Y be migrated too or will I lose all the information?

    One last thing.

Why do you say that version numbers are not associated with templates?

You can see in the following link that the MSF for Agile Process Template is version 4.2? (and in TFS2005 it was version 4.0)

    Can nobody help me?

It would be nice to know if I am going to lose all the info created with custom templates after migrating to TFS2008 ...

    Hi Clara,

We have done this specific type of migration. We customised a version of MSF agile and used it TFS 2005. When we migrated to TFS 2008 the template worked just as we expected in 2005. All work items and templates migrated to TFS 2008 no problems.
