I need some help. My problem is actually pretty simple. I want to use

reporting services on visual studio 2008. Recently I installed sql 2005 standard, sp2 etc

default instance on my vista computer however I found out some

disturbing news business intelligence development studio-is part of

vs 2005 not vs 2008. I spent over a month looking

into these factors and I was quite mad that I can not use

reporting services...The worst part is it installed vs 2005

which I do not want( I would have to install sp2 etc)

My understanding is that you must have sql 2005 installed on my

computer to use  sql reporting services.

    My question are these:

    1. What parts do I need to unistall in sql 2005 to get

    2008 reporting services to work?

    2. Can I unistall vs 2005?

3 office web components are not part of vs 2008, sql 2008

do I need to unistall and reinstall? However They

are necessary for use with sql 2005.....

    4. What is the best way to get reporting systems to work

    on vs 2008?

5  Do I need to address these issues with microsoft?

Any advice would be helpful to get this resolved

    Thank you......

hi, I followed you, the issue is you want the SSRS 2005 client design expereince to work with Visual Studio 2008?

Thats not supported.  As you have found,  side by side installations work.  SQL Business Intelligence Studio (BIDS) is indeed basd on VS but lots of extra functioanlity is installed which give you the BI designers.  Its not just a matter of other project types.    Therefore its 'bound' to the version of vs we coded/tested with.

With SQL 2008, we have migrated BIDs to be based on VS2008 as well as enhancing the vairous pieces underneath that make up the BI design experience.  In case your looking for the most recent trial/CTP version of SQL 2008, it can be found here.  Its from Feb and we have now made lots of great changes for the next /RC0 release which is not far off, but the Feb CTP is still great to see whats new, especially in BIDs.

    Thank you for your patience.
