Remote BLOB Store API
All of the information that I have been able to find about the Remote BLOB Store API is conceptual. Is there any operational information available? Is this feature available for the current CTP of SQL 08 and the new RTM of Windows Server 2008? What client libraries are currently available?
Answers
The Remote Blob Store project is being delivered as a Feature Pack separate from the main SQL product, but in sync schedule-wise. It is not in any current CTP, but we hope to ship it with the last CTP in late spring.
At this point we have not published the API set for this, but will certainly by the time that this CTP ships.
If by client libraries you mean the Provider libraries which adapt RBS to specific storage solutions, we are working with EMC to have them ship a library for their Centera product, and will be working with other major vendors as well. With the feature itself, we will ship example providers which store data in the filesystem. This is NOT meant for production use, but rather as example code for provider implementors as well as a handy testing harness.

- Hi Just wondering whether there is any example code on using the Remote BLOB store API, I've down loaded and installed the feature pack but the documentation doesn't really give enough information on how to set it up and get it running, if any one knows where there's some more info then that would be much appreaciated
Cheers
Roland Sutton - As of Nov 2008, EMC has a Centera RBS provider available on EMC LABS (registration required)
Information on the Centera provider is available on the EMC Labs web site, and from CenteraRBS@emc.com
The Centera RBS provider is for use with the RBS functionality released in the SQL Server 2008 Feature Pack released this fall.
