SharePoint 2010 - Missing Navigation Configuration Link under Site Settings

Hi,
for one of my newly created Sites I don't see the Navigation Link under Site Settings\Look and Feel section. Does anybody know why and how can I get it for being able to configure the navigation?
I also didn't get the default group Hierarchy Managers by creating the site. Just for your information, I am member of the Owners group and all available permission levels are included into the Owners default group.
Thanks for you help!

You probably have a top link bar instead. If so, just activate the site feature: SharePoint server publishing.

Hi AK,
thank your for your hint!
There is not Top Link Bar that I've seen for configuring the navigation. Where should I look for it?
Under some other site collections where I've created team sites, the Navigation link is still available.
Thanks much,
Mihai

Friday, April 29, 2011 4:55 PMIt is under Look and Feel. You either have Top Link Bar or Navigation (if site feature: SharePoint server publishing is activated).

How do I get to the option, in case that publishing feature is not used? A normal team site does not have the publishing feature included, but it should be possible to customized the navigation & menu options still.
Thanks again for your help!

You have to at least activate the Site Collection Publishing Feature even if you don't want it at the site (web) level. That's all you need to do.

Hi Clayton,
thanks for your input!
Is it possible to activate the Publishing feature and still not use the Approval workflow so that the applied changes are immediately visible?
Do you know why, configuration of the navigation and menus is directly related to the publishing feature?
Thanks,
Mihai

Hi Mihai,
The Navigation function is located in the SharePoint Publishing Feature.
The Microsoft.SharePoint.Publishing.Navigation namespace contains classes that represent the node, typing, collection, data source, provider, and proxy functionality that supports Microsoft Office SharePoint Server 2010 navigation.

Hi m-yoda,
Go to Site Actions->Site Settings then under "site collection adminstration" section click on "site collection features". Now Activate the "Sharepoint Server Publixhing Infrastructure" feature. I think you can do it only if you are a site collection administrator. Now for each site you can activate feature "SharePoint Server Publishing". You are done. You should be able to see the option "Navigation" now.
