File upload in Sharepoint

Question

Hi ,

We have requirement of uploading some local(client) machine's file to sharepoint document library programitically, Where in all paths of files will be stored in XLS file, we need to read this XLS file and upload the files with path mention in XLS to document library.

This can be done easily if all files are present on server, but how to get files from client machine and upload it to DL?

The same way sharepoint does for multiple file upload, Is there and API provided by sharepoint?
