In a clients SharePoint farm, they currently are experiencing an issue.

A group of users who are Members (SharePoint Group Membership) of a particular Site Collection tend to get random pop ups when using Outlook 2007, Word 2007 or Excel 2007.

Looking into their My Network Places I noticed that certain SharePoint sites that has been deleted are still being referenced.

After clearing the My Network Places, they still get the prompt.

So far the only the pop up prompts stop is when I remove the user from the SharePoint Membership Group.(which I dont want to do).

It seems theres a problem with SharePoint/Office 2007/Windows removing any links which a deleted site that the user had access to previously.

    SharePoint: MOSS 2007 SP2  - 12.0.0.6539

    Office : Office 2007 SP2

Client Machine: Terminal Server Windows 2003 in a Citrix environment

    Can anyone help?

    Hi webwox,

Please check out this hotfix of Office 2007(KB970950):

    http://support.microsoft.com/kb/970950

The specific bullet that resolves this problem states the following:

“When you view folders that are listed under My SharePoint Sites in the Open dialog box or the Save As dialog box in a 2007 Office application, you are prompted for authentication. This problem occurs when an expired site is removed from the list and you no longer have access to the site.”

    Thanks,
    Lhan Han

    Hi Lhan

On a test desktop, we have had Office 2007 SP3 installed and also the user PC is a Windows 2003 64bit server.

So the above hotfix did not install. So the issue still exists.
