    Hi,

I have a 1 server (WFE + App) + 1 db server (Single, no cluster) SharePoint farm. This is patched to December 2011 CU. I have an upgraded Portal and upgraded MySite from MOSS 2007. I made a mistake of starting user profile server without starting managed metadata service. And landed up with the quite famous error message in the MySite profile page:

"There was a problem retrieving data for this field. Updating values in this field is disabled temporarily. You can still update values in other fields."

So initial problem was similar to:

    http://social.msdn.microsoft.com/Forums/en-CA/sharepoint2010general/thread/343a85e3-0713-42a8-839a-d51985e13419

However, the following actions have been taken so far in order to resole:

Managed Metadata Service Application has been created via PowerShell (Yes, after User Profile Service was created)

Managed Metadata Service Application Proxy has been created via PowerShell

Two accounts have full permission on the "Managed Metadata Service Application",  The SharePoint pool accuont that is assciated with the Managed Metadata Service Application. And the Setup account with which the PowerShell has been run.

    Additional errors:

8089: The Managed Metadata Service 'Metadata Services Service Application Proxy' is inaccessible. The web application does not have sufficient permission

When I try to click on the Properties button after selecting the Managed Metadata Service Application, I get a 403 and the page does not open.

    Hi,

Since no one responded to this thread yet, let me try to keep the thread updated with the latest troubleshooting step at least. I opened a similar thread in the Microsoft partner portal so that I can work with a support engineer.

So far, I have been asked how I migrated the MySite and SSP from MOSS 2007 to SharePoint 2010. And I have been asked to check the permission of the Managed Metadata Service Application.

Additionally, I have to turn on the verbose logon and provide the log for further analysis.

It is obvious that  I have done a major mistake by turning on User Profile without creating the Managed Metadata Service application and proxy. However, what I am seeking is to find a solution without having to rebuold MySites or having to recreate User Profile Service Application.

This is production and users have uploaded addition information since the migration.
