Answered Sharepoint 2010 Remote Login Problems

I have a single sharepoint 2010 server.  Last week Thursday and Friday I was able to log in to my Sharepoint sites remotely with no problems at all.  I turned my server off over the weekend.  When I fired it up this morning and tried to log on to my sharepoint sites remotely I can not log in.  It keeps prompting me with the credential manager.  After I enter the correct credentials it just flashes the same credential manager again.  The really weird thing is if I leave my computer for a while and come back I can access 1 or 2 sharepoint sites remotely and then all of a sudden when I browse to another shareoint site I get the credential manager again and can't get past it (I can't even access the site I just was able to right before I browsed to a new one).  I can log into my sharepoint sites just fine on the server itself.  I have tried multiple remote computers with multiple users that have access.  Any help would be greatly appreciated.

If your remote sessions are on Windows 7 or Vista, and your URL is a fully qualfied domain name, can you try thie fix outlined here - http://support.microsoft.com/kb/943280/en-us ?

My remote sessions are mainly on windows 7 but I notice it on a XP machine as well.  Also we are not using a fully qualified domain name.

Alright some additional details.  I have come to the realization that this may not be a shareopint issue, but rather some kind of Windows Server 2008 R2 issue.  I have found out that a similar issue happens when I try to do a remote connection to the sharepoint server box.  Every once in a while I will be able to connect but the connection is dropped after a few seconds.  I have set the server to allow remote connections, I have stopped the firewall service.  I cannot figure out what else to try.  I also realize that this may need to be moved to a different forum as it may no longer be a sharepoint issue.  Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I figured out the problem. We are currently virtualizing our servers and we did a test P to V with the sharepoint server about two weeks ago.  Last friday one of the other testers turned the virtual server on and it was pulling the same IP address as the physical.  This was what was causing all of my issues. As soon as we turned off the virtual the problem was solved.  Thanks for all of your suggestions!

I have the same problem. I tested using 2 methods.

    1) From another server which is in the same domain.

    2) From a client running on Windows 7.

In the 1st method only sharepoint admins can log by the web interface. When testing from windows 7 machines even administrators can't log to the site. It says "HTTP 404 Page not Found".
