Hi siddiqali, you cannot migrate directly from 2003 to 2010 with OOTB migration procedure. You have to migrate to MOSS 2007 and then to SPS2010. You don't need to have a SharePoint 2007 license, you can use a trial license (both for Windows, SQL and SharePoint). Here you can find the upgrade and migration resource portal on Technet http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/sharepoint/ee517214 and an article describing the steps needed to complete to migrate FBA web applications to Claim Based Authentication http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/gg144572.aspx.

    Hi,

at first you have to upgrade to SharePoint 2007 (including Service Pack 2), then you can upgrade your 2007 enviroment to 2010. There are several choices for 2007 to 2010 upgrade, you can check http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc303420.aspx for more information.

    Hi Siddiqali,

The changes between versions are very good, and the hardware requirements differ so much between versions that a direct, in-place upgrade is not possible or supported. You can, however, perform a series of database attach upgrades to first upgrade your content to Windows SharePoint Services 3.0 and then to SharePoint Foundation 2010. This articles describes the process of performing this double-database attach upgrade.

There is also the option of a third party tool. Metalogix Migration Manager for SharePoint will allow you to do a direct migration from 2003-2010 regardless of service packs, etc. You can also do a gradual or staged migration, as well as have both environments live with incremental migrations until you are ready to cut over permanently.
