Can this index the OCR-ed text in TIFF files?

Out of box, no. Maybe extended if you can get a TIFF iFilter. There was one in SharePoint Portal Server 2003, but there's no plan for 2007.

Have the plans been shelved for 2007 then? I had been told by MS support that a tiff filter would become available + Filter Central mentions it will be included in an ifilter pack. Is it not a bit strange that Microsoft can't even index there own Office MODI product?

I'm sure there'll not be any tiff ifilter released by MS now, there maybe some communication misunderstanding.

 

But there may be a chance to push the progress, if you can give the example that many customer are heavily using TIFF to store archive documents. We are collecting customer examples to persuade "someone" to deliver the ifilter, maybe through partner.

Does anyone know if there are plans for the TIFF ifilter? We have literally millions of archived documents in tiff format that we need to get into MOSS.

Yes, there would be one in this year.

We have a customer with 10,000+ TIFF images that needs to get these documents into a MOSS 2007 Records Center.  A TIFF ifilter for MOSS 2007 would be the perfect solution.  Please let me know when one becomes available for MOSS 2007.

Coveo Enterprise Search provides OCR search including TIF files.  Requires the Coveo OCR Module.  Takes about 30 mintues to set up and be up and running.  Coveo is a Microsoft Gold Partner.
