One website two webmasters

Question

I am sure this question has been asked before--but I can't seem to find an answer. We have one website with two remote webmasters. If he makes a change and forgets  to tell me--well, you know what happens.

I tried synching--but it didn't update my local copy. I looked into Check files in and out, but when I try to follow the instructions, the menus/submenus aren't there.

Part of the problem is I am not sure how to phrase the question for the search engines (shared resources, check-in, check-out are the obvious ones). What would this be called?

Could somebody direct me to help that will work with Expression Studio 4 or suggest away to keep the updates clean?
