Thursday, October 25, 2012 12:09 AMI am a retired computer software engineer. Have used FP for my sites. I need to be able to display video files, create, update and search a database from within web pages. Have used Expression Web 1 but it doesn't have these capabilities. Is Expression 4 a good option for me?

Thursday, October 25, 2012 7:37 AM"Is Expression 4 a good option for me?"It is an option, but your best option is to stick with FrontPage or SharePoint Designer 2007 (NOT SharePoint Designer 2010 or later versions), unless you are willing to learn HTML, CSS and scriptinglanguages such as asp.NETWith Expression Web and Expression Encoder (EW4 comes with Encoder), inserting videos using Silverlight is easy, as is using the HTML 5 video tags.As for Database working, if you have a Windows host that supports asp.Net and SQL Server or Access, then look at Clark's basic Expression Web database tutorials at http://homepageDoctor.com

Thursday, October 25, 2012 4:04 PMThank you for your reply and info. I have checked out some of the tutorials in Clark's basic Expression Web database tutorials. They seem to be very extensive. I am not sure I have the patience and knowledge to create and provide update capabilities to such a database. Can you recommend a reliable/knowledgeable person or company that may be interested in completing that end of the website. I have spoken with people at ipage and they are receptive. What are your thoughts if any. Thanks again.

Saturday, October 27, 2012 6:43 AMI have never he3ard of ipage, so cannot comment on them.I do all my own coding, so cannot recommend anyone from personal experience - but if you intend to use PHP and mySQL then Veign (http://veign.com) may be able to give you a quote. He has many PHPcode samples on his site.Incidentially, I retired in 1999, and started learning VB.NET in 2006 - I found it very easy to switch from a background in C programming. C# is very similar to JavaScript in syntax. Both VB.NET andC# can be used as languages in asp.NET.There are simple tutorials at http://w3schools.com.
