Encoder crashing when importing xesc file

Question

I have Encoder version 4.04276.0 SP2 (without codecs)

I'm running Win 7 64bit

I created an xesc file with the screen capture software.  It is 5 min 24 sec.  It plays fine in the capture software and also in windows media player. When I open the Encoder it opens fine but when I import the xesc file I get:

Encoder has stopped working A problem caused the program to stop working correctly.  Windows will close the program and notify you if a solution is available.

I re-opened the encoder and imported an mpeg file and it worked fine.  Then I tried to import the xesc file with the same result of it crashing.

I would like to import the xesc file without it crashing.  I am not a developer and don't really know anything about codecs or how to know what I have or where to get them.
