I tried to install windows server appfabric via Web Platform Installer, but it failed with "Unsupported operating system edition"
My version is Windows Server 2008, Edtion: Windows Server Web.
Is there any workaround for installing AppFabric Caching on the web edition?

Make sure SP2 is installed, AppFabric won't install without that.

Hi Christian,
AppFabric is not supported on Windows server Web edition. Please go through the link below to know about supported operating systems:

Hi Shankar,
Exactly where is it said, in the link you sent, that Web Edition is not supported? There's no information regarding that. The page just states that is possible to install on, Windows 7, Windows Server 2008 R2, Windows Server 2008 Service Pack 2, Windows Vista Service Pack 2, nothing about OS Editions. The only thing that needs an Enterprise version is Windows Server AppFabric Caching. The rest doesn't. Right? So the question remains. Why can't we install that in a Web Edition, it's Windows Server 2008 and has .NET Framework 4.0 and IIS installed. So the requirements are there.

Here's what I found in the installation guide
Installation of AppFabric Hosting Services, Caching Services, Hosting Administration, and Cache Administration is not supported on the Web Edition or Foundation Edition of Windows Server 2008 R2 or Windows Server 2008 SP2. Installation of the AppFabric Cache Client is supported on Windows Server Web Edition or Foundation Edition.

There is a workaround: patch the setup.exe and you can install the Caching Services on Web Server Edition.
although i'm not sure if not supported means also not licensed
