We are deploying a custom DataSet extension for Reporting Services. Our assemblies use the VSTS extensibility API’s. When running the code on development we are able to connect to a VSTS server and pull data without any problem.
When running the code on the Reporting Services server we get the following message when trying to connect to VSTS:
Could not load file or assembly 'Microsoft.VisualStudio.Currituck.Proxies.DataServices, Version=22.214.171.124, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=b03f5f7f11d50a3a' or one of its dependencies. The system cannot find the file specified.
I’ve found the assembly in the GAC but not a .dll file
Question: Do we need to install Visual Studio on the server in order to load the necessary components? Is there a way to install the necessary components to establish connectivity with VSTS server from the report server?

Are you using the currituck OM or trying to code directly to the proxy/web service? If you are using the extensibility APIs (currituck OM) then you will need to install the lightweight client at a minimum (TFC).
Also - interesting idea to bind directly to the store to get list reports in reporting services.
