問題SQL Server 2008 Developer Installation on Vista x64 Ultimate

  • Wednesday, 21 January, 2009 20:59mazansm 使用者勳章使用者勳章使用者勳章使用者勳章使用者勳章

    Hello,

I recently got Server 2008 Developer for testing purposes, and am trying to install it on my Vista x64 Ultimate machine. I previously had SQL Server 2005 which I removed.

When I run the install, I get al the way to where it says: Install_sql_bids_Cpu64_Action: Write_NativeImage_64. Generating Native Images

However, it has been sitting there for over 4 hours. I've canceled out before, and tried to uninstall the installed components, but the uninstall doesn't work either (can't rollback to 2005 because the Native Client doesn't remove properly).

There is activity from the setup100.exe process that is running. Occassionally I'll see it do something on the cpu (0 to 5) but the installation doesn't progress.

Any help would be wonderful. The removal of 2005 was nasty, had to manually delete directories and the uninstall didn't progress properly either.

    Hi,

    You have sqlncli.msi in ...\Servers\Setup\ folder .

Could you to try to re-install Sql server native client first ? Command is as follows :

    sqlncli.msi REINSTALL=ALL REINSTALLMODE=OMUS /QB

    HTH

The reinstall of the SQL Native Client seemed to go fine. I received no errors, and there's no log file to see unfortunately. Should I re-attempt installation, or removal at this point?

    Thanks

I restarted the install, and its been running for about 4 hours now.

Seems to just stop at the generating native images section.

Here's the last parts of the Detail.log. I'm not seeing any errors. It just seems that its taking forever to run.

Do you have Visual Studio 2008 already installed in a Non-default location ?

I apparently have 3 directories referencing VS 2008
    c:\program files\Microsoft Visual Studio 9.0
    c:\Program Files (x86)\Microsoft Visual Studio
    c:\Program Files (x86)\Microsoft Visual Studio 9.0

The last one seems to be the installation location for Visual Studio because that's where my startup link is going.

     Hmmmm

I hope we are not hitting this . Please run Procmon , apply filter to include msiexec.exe and setup.exe (to avoid noise of the events being captured by ProcMon) , Click on 'Capture Events' and simultaneously re-run the setup . The moment setup hangs , go to ProcMon , stop 'capture events' , save log in .csv , analyze. See if you get some 'Access denied' etc. Let us know the results.

I ran ProcMon and got a 1.2gb file for the SQL Install.

From what I can tell before I closed it, the process was hanging at Thread Start/Thread Exit.

I tried loading the file into Excel so I could cut/paste it, but it wouldn't load the whole thing.

Tell me what you need from the file, and I'll try to break it out somewhere.

Umm we need to shorten the procomon log. Can you capture events in ProcMon just few seconds before we are supposed to hit the 'hang' ?

I'm currently importing the file into Access, and then I'll just export the last 50 lines or so back to CSV or Flat File.

Ok, so the file wouldn't import into Access (and since I have no SQL there's that...lol) so I'm re-running the setup.

Ok, so I ran the setup again, in repair mode (because it's failed in the past), and this time it completed. However, I didn't get a lot of the tools (none of the management tools), and I couldn't run an Add from Add/Remove because it kept failing with error SKU. So now I'm in the process of uninstalling it, which of course is taking forever again, but at least it SEEMS to be doing something this time around.

I'm going to try the install again this weekend at home, so we'll see what it can do.

To install Tools only, run setup.exe from Disk 2 .

I have the DVD version, and don't see an option for that.

I also could not re-install the server, it kept hanging at that same spot again.

*sigh* I'm going to try one final time by logging into the local administrator account on the machine (I'm using my domain admin accnt currently) and try the install again and see what happens.

I'm trying to install SQL 2008 Express on Vista 64 bit and having no end of problems. I'm using the downloaded file SQLEXPRADV_x64_ENU. Seems no matter what I do it gets to a certain point (around 75%) and just hangs. Even trying to uninstall it fails with it hanging around 75%. The last part of my log shows:

I remember having an issue like this way back on XP installing .net framework 3. I couldn't even install that. Finally fixed it using some repair tool from MS (MS Cleanup Tool). Would using that possible work here or is that specifically for .net framework?

Did you ever resolve this Vista problem?  I have the exact same thing and it's endangering my project.
