Unable to Log On to Windows Store Developer Account
-
2012年8月16日 20:00
I am writing to report an inability to sign in to my Windows Store Developer Account dashboard;
The laptop computer from which I am writing, and the laptop computer from which I am trying to log on to the Windows Store Developer Account, is specified in below screen shot - I've deleted the actual name of the computer;
I do work with a second laptop, which as of today is running the RTM of Windows 8 and Visual Studio 2012 Ultimate, and last week I did sign in to the Windows Store Developer Account from the second laptop;
My goal is to upload a Windows 8 RTM | Visual Studio 2012 RTM app package to the Windows Store for testing, and certification;
Any insight into this matter is appreciated;
Best regards -

It sounds like you do not have a secondary email address or phone number associated with your Microsoft account. You will need one of these to be able to log in on a machine which has not been designated as a Trusted PC in your Microsoft account settings. You can accomplish all of this here: https://account.live.com/proofs/Manage
Once you have done this, if your machine is a Windows 8 machine, you can add it to be a Trusted PC so that you will not see these log on challenges when you log into the Windows Store dashboard from that machine.
Also, it is good to look at this guidance about keeping your account secure: http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/windows/apps/jj553414.aspx?ppud=4

I have the same problem. I installed win 8 RTM on the same machine as I had Consumer preview with the same name. I used to access my dashboard with same account and machine. Since I installed RTM I get this message:
To access this content, please sign in on a computer that's connected to your account.- ComputerName
We're sorry, but we want to make sure that nobody else is getting into your account.
Then I go to my security info to make changes, but then it only shows me my computer name, but not trusted. In the same time it says you must use trusted computer.
I can log through other Hotmail accounts, but I have my app in the store already based on the account that I can't use.
In 'security info' it says the changes I made will take effect on 9/14, but I can't wait without updating the application.
Note: I read the links above, but they didn't help since I have no proof other than the machine name, which shows untrusted.
Any help?
thanks

wow... it's amazing how you guys managed to make this process so complicated and unpleasant.
I have the same problem as other people: can't access the appdev account from any machine anymore :( I get the same (very intuitive!) message: "We don't recognize the computer you're using".
I added a secondary email, tried it from two different computers (Windows 8 RTM, Windows 7) added my computer to be a Trusted PC and I don't know what else to try.
Well done!

I too have an access problem that started around yesterday, but slightly different: more often than not, when going to the Dashboard it says "Help us protect your account. To continue, check your email and enter the code we just sent you."
This happens several times per day, in spite of working from the same browser (Chrome, I use it because the drag and drop with the site features works well) and the same, static, IP address.
The problem is however that this code is either not sent properly, or it is delayed, because I have to select [Send me another code] several times before getting a code, and it takes minutes each time. (For the record, the recipient mail system is on Google Apps, and no, it doesn't end in the spam folder.) This is unnecessarily disruptive, hopefully it will be fixed?

Thank you for the feedback;
On the Microsoft Account, a category exists Trusted PC;
However, the link is not enabled - and I can not add my laptop as a Trusted PC;
The security info I modified will be updated on Sept. 15th - but this information seems to be only for verification purposes, and does not seem related to the Windows Developer Account login process;
Regarding the ability to log in to a valid Windows Developer Account - some of the replies to this thread indicate a temporary infrastructure issue, perhaps related to the RTM of Windows 8;
I have downloaded Windows Essentials, and my laptop is a Windows 8 RTM machine;
I have a Windows 8 App Store token, as a result of an App Excellence Lab for my Windows 8 project - a couple weeks back;
Up until Wednesday, August 15th (the RTM date for Windows 8), I was able to sign in to my Windows Developer Account from a Windows 7 laptop - as well as sign in from a Windows 8 Release Preview laptop;
Any additional insight into this matter is appreciated;
Best regards,

I am also having the same problem. I click resend email and it never comes!
I had to create another account just to write this message. I am trying to submit a new release for my metro app.
Any Microsoft update on when this will be fixed?

Hello Everyone,
This is an issue that is being looked into. We have been made aware of it and as soon as there is a resolution for this issue I will post back. As a workaround if you have additional security already attached for phone text messaging the codes that are being sent by text are going through appropriately and you can use that as a temporary solution.
Thanks,
-John

The temp solution doesn't work for me since the store doesn't show me an option for alternative e-mail or phone. it only shows the computer name. My account had the other proofs, but somehow were deleted or the store don't prompt me form them.

While we're investigating the issue around codes not being sent to the email address, you may try the below techniques to access your Store dashboard:
- If you have a phone proof on the account, request that the code be sent via SMS/text to your phone. In this case, you will see a 'I didn't get the code' link. Click that link and follow the process. Or,
- Access the Store dashboard from a PC that is a trusted PC on the Microsoft account.
To add a trusted PC as a proof, navigate to https://account.live.com/proofs/Manage from that PC, and follow the instructions to add the machine as a trusted PC.
Some proofs must be confirmed before they are valid. If you are presented with an option to confirm the trusted PC proof, click that link and follow the instructions. Until we resolve the 'code not being sent to email address' issue on our end, please use your phone proofs to confirm the trusted PC addition.
You can then access your Store dashboard from the trusted PC, using:
Internet Explorer on Windows 8, or
Internet Explorer with Windows Essentials and Microsoft account Sign In Helper Add On enabled (this can be checked by going to Manage add-ons in Internet Explorer)This article discusses how to keep your account secure: http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/windows/apps/jj553414.aspx?ppud=4

I have no phone proof.
And when I add a trusted PC (with IE/win8) it says the changes will take effect on 9/16, but I can't wait without updating my application.

The "Trusted PC" option seems to suffer from similar email delays.
It's also not possible to confirm a phone number, since that too sends an email...
The email account works fine. Even the forum notifications for these posts are coming in fine. Just the "protection" doesn't work... (unless you consider "inaccessible" an extreme definition of "well protected").

2012年8月19日 16:09I am still having trouble verifying my account. Any idea when this will be fixed? I have an app that I want to submit.

After downloading the RTM of Windows 8 to my second laptop (and Trusted PC), I am able to sign in successfully to my Windows 8 Store Account;
I have gone ahead, and submitted my Windows 8 project to the Windows Store for testing - and certification;

In my case I don't have a second PC and I still have the same problem. Should I start new thread since the issue is not resolved for me?
thanks

2012年9月21日 15:23On August 17, 2012 it says this problem is "being looked into. We have been made aware of it and as soon as there is a resolution I will post back..." It has been a month since that posting. Does the absence of a post mean there is no progress whatsoever toward a solution?

I'd like to know if there's been any resolution. I upgraded to Windows 8 and tried to use my Bizspark token to start a Windows store account and I get the dreaded "don't recognize the PC". I have email and phone associated with this account but don't have any options to add a trusted PC, there are no options to confirm security proofs by phone or email.
I also have a 2nd compute ( Windows 8 Slate ) that has the same issue. Not trusted and no options to make it trusted.
Thanks,
Craig

2013年4月25日 15:36I'm having the same problem. This is pretty ridiculous given this thread was open in august 2012!
