Couldn't add user/group 'Lastname, Fname (Company/Org)'. It may be in an incorrect domain.

Thats the error if I try to add additional Namespace Administrators or to the TFS Everyone  group.

Any reason TFS won't accept commas, forward slashes, parenthesis or @ symbols?

It should accept Domain\username...  You may need to quote the string (")

When I typed  "mydomain\myusername"  and clicked ok, it resolved it to
    "MyLName, MyFname (myorg/mydept) (myusername@myorg.com)"

Then after I click ok, I get the message pop-up I mentioned before.

Should the AD be setup in any particular way for my account to be added to this group?  Could this error be generated if my account doesn't have the prereq settings that the TFSService account has?

    Thanks for your help.

I also experience this error.  Trying to add project members from outside the primary domain.
The check name finds the name, but when adding back to the member list, returns Couldn't add user/group, ...  It may be in an incorrect domain.

At the moment, we only support Same domains.  If you use the same domain, does it work?

I am guessing that you are in the same domain... that is, your user name and machine is in the same domain.

If not, can you try that?

    Thanks

Actually, I'm not an expert on the AD but  here are some details that may help answer the question of whether I'm in the same domain as my TFS server.

I do have the ability to view my ad entry information (I'm trying to add my account to the TFS group)...

On the AD account property page for myself it says

Fully qualified domain name of object=abc.com/AD/ABC/ORG/Users/MyLname, MyFname (ABC/ORG)

The object property page for the TFS server says

Fully qualified domain name of object=abc.com/AD/ABC/ORG/OPS/DEV/servername

Does this help answering the question?  If not How can I verify I'm in the same domain?

    Thanks again.

That... I am not sure either... Does the OPS tree and Users tree have trusts set up... My guess is that you are in the same domain, but maybe there may be different trusts going on between trees.

    Hi,

    I also get this problem.
It happens when I try to add a doamin user ( same domain) that has / char in it's caption.

    The message is:
"Couldn't add user/group 'Technical Leader/ Eli Ofek'. It may be in an incorrect domain."

The workaround I found so far is to create a new security group with a simple name & caption that I am the only user in it and add the group.

Someone has a better workaround ?

    Thanks,

    Eli.
