I can't open my site with SharePoint Designer 2010.

SharePoint and Foundation installed on Windows 2008 Standard Server.Designer on Windows 7.

I've spent a good deal of time researching and troubleshooting already and have checked the following:

    1. Enable Client Integration is set to Yes for the web application.

    2. All checkboxes are checked under the site collection's SharePoint Designer Settings.

    3. Connecting to the Central Administration website from SD works no problem.

    4. I can browse the site in the SD Open Site window, but when I actually click open, I get the error.

    5. Logged in and tried as the SharePoint service account, the domain admin account, my account which is an admin, and the site collection admin account.

    6. Creating a new site collection in the same web application and trying to connect to it yields the same error

    7. Compared all the site settings in IIS Manager between the Central Admin site and the web application running on port 80

How can I get this basic SharePoint functionality working (not that anything in SharePoint is basic from an administrative sense...)?

    Hi ,

I understand that when you open the a SharePoint site in SharePoint Designer ,the error “The Web server "Website URL" does not appear to have Microsoft SharePoint Foundation installed” appears .

Can you open the site in browser while in Win7 system ?If so ,you can choose the Site Actions>Edit in SharePoint Designer in browser to open the site in SharePoint Designer .What URL are you using to get access to this site ?Using http or https? If you are using https ,you can try to use http instead .Make sure that you are using server name instead of ip address in the URL .

For more information ,please refer to this site:

You receive an error message when you try to use Microsoft SharePoint Designer 2010 to open a Microsoft SharePoint 2010 Web site: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/981223

    Hi there,

Thank you for the forum posting regarding your issue. I have a few questions that if you could please answer to help gain better ground on your issue:
    1. What type of authentication is your site using?
    2. Is your site load balanced?
    3. If number 2 is yes, can we bypass the load balancer by adding an entry to your host file to and attempt to connect to the site?
    4. Can you take a network trace of the issue, and see what file it’s failing on and what the http status code is?
