Can windows phone application run as Service ?

    Can windows phone 8 application run as Service ?

    Or can we do Socket Communication in background.

    No, your app cannot run as a service.  You can do some limited multitasking in background agents.

  • On Windows Phone 7 your app cant be run constantly on the background. On Windows Phone 8 there are a type of apps that can: Geolocation. GeoLocation apps can keep the app alive in memory and receive GeoLocation notifications.

    The other way you have is Background Tasks but these are not constantly running. They will run from time to time and have some strict rules on how much time the task takes.

    Finally you have another option. To have your server app send Notifications to your users using Notification Services, and then having the app do something when a notification is received and the user opens the App.

  • My application is Client-Server architecture, Server part is already done , communication with server is using socket.
    That connection remains live all the time.
